Overview
Reporting to the Vice President, IT, the Cyber Security Specialist is responsible for monitoring, detecting, and responding to security threats and incidents within our environment. You will work closely with other IT team members to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our systems and data.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains thorough, up-to-date knowledge of cybersecurity threats and incident response best practices.
- Maintains system cybersecurity monitoring operations, and performs cyber incident triage to determine scope, urgency and potential impact of the incident
- Analyze threat intelligence data to identify potential risks and inform security strategies and makes recommendations for remediation.
- Proactively searches for threats using a variety of Computer Network Defense (CND) tools, including intrusion detection system alerts, firewall and network traffic logs, and host system logs.
- Conducts a root cause analysis for each incident to define follow-up action items and to make recommendations to stakeholders.
- Documents all activities that occurred during an incident using established methodologies and procedures and lessons learned for future reference.
- Proactively monitor network traffic, systems, and security logs for suspicious activity.
- Implement established incident response procedures to contain, eradicate, and recover from security incidents.
- Coordinate with relevant teams to perform response activities and mitigate further damage.
- Lead the development and improvement of security policies, procedures, and standards.
- Provide technical support and guidance to other members of the IT team on security best practices.
- Generate regular reports on security incidents, threat trends, and the effectiveness of security measures.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required To Be Successful
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
- 4-7 years of experience in cybersecurity management.
- Experience in firewall policy development, implementation and evaluation.
- Proven experience with Fortinet firewalls and other Fortinet appliances is a must have.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Security (Conditional Access Policies) is a key part of this role.
- Knowledge of Network Segmentation and ZTNA is crucial.
- Proven experience with Vulnerability Management is required.
- Experience with SentinelOne EDR is considered an asset.
- VOIP experience and more specifically Bell Total Connect is an asset.
