Network Engineer

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Network Engineer is responsible for the architecture, security, performance, and continuous improvement of the organization's network infrastructure. This role supports a modern, Fortinet-centric environment while collaborating closely with infrastructure, cybersecurity, and clinical teams to ensure the availability and security of systems that support patient care, resident safety, and business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, high-performing enterprise network infrastructure across multiple healthcare sites.
- Administer and optimize routing, switching, wireless networking, SD-WAN, SASE, and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) technologies.
- Manage Fortinet network and security solutions, including firewalls, switches, wireless access points, management, analytics, and secure remote access.
- Monitor network performance, availability, and security while proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Lead network architecture improvements, infrastructure upgrades, disaster recovery planning, and technology modernization initiatives.
- Design and maintain secure network segmentation, firewall policies, VPN connectivity, and access controls.
- Support networking requirements for clinical and operational technologies, including Building Management Systems (BMS), Nurse Call, Wander Management, IP telephony, and other connected systems.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, cloud, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure secure integration across the technology environment.
- Develop technical documentation, network diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.
- Provide third-level technical support and participate in scheduled on-call support for critical systems.
Qualifications:
Education
Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure and security solutions.
- Strong expertise in routing, switching, TCP/IP, wireless networking, VLANs, QoS, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise networking technologies.
- Experience administering next-generation firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, network access control, and network monitoring platforms.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, CIS Controls, and ISO 27001.
- Experience troubleshooting complex network environments using packet analysis and network monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS networking and cloud security principles.
- Experience supporting healthcare, operational technology (OT), or regulated environments is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- A valid driver's license with the ability to travel between organizational sites.
Certifications
Candidates should possess one or more relevant industry certifications, such as:
- Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) or Network Security Expert (NSE)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
- Palo Alto Networks security certifications
Additional certifications in Microsoft Azure, CompTIA Security+, Network+, ITIL, or healthcare technology are considered assets.
