Job description:
We’re seeking a System Integration Engineer with expertise in optics and opto-electronics systems to join our team on-site in Waterloo, Canada. In this role, you will contribute to assembly, integration, test, and deployment of an optical based quantum sensor for radio frequency sensing. You will be a member of a multidisciplinary team and play a critical role in driving technical excellence, ensuring project milestones are achieved, and fostering innovation.
Key responsibilities:
· Assemble and integrate opto-electronic systems including lasers, optical modulators, photodiodes, and control electronics
· Perform system-level testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of quantum sensing hardware
· Operate lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, and optical measurement tools
· Support development of test setups, procedures, and validation workflows
· Collaborate with engineering teams to debug and optimize system performance
· Participate in on-site installation and field testing (occasional travel required)
Required qualifications:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, or related field.
· Hands-on experience with electronic and/or optical systems in a lab environment
· Familiarity with common test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
· Strong practical troubleshooting and system integration skills
· Comfortable working with complex hardware systems
· Willingness to travel for installation and field deployment when needed
Preferred qualifications:
· Experience with lasers, photonics, or RF systems
· Basic programming/scripting (Python preferred) for test automation or data analysis
· Exposure to research labs or advanced scientific instrumentation
