Job Description
We are seeking a Research Scientist to support the development of next-generation quantum sensing technologies. The successful candidate will have a background in atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics, quantum sensing, or alkali vapor cell fabrication. Candidates with experience in either experimental AMO research or vapor cell fabrication are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and characterize atom-based sensing systems.
- Conduct laboratory experiments involving lasers, optics, spectroscopy, or alkali vapor cells.
- Develop or support the fabrication of alkali vapor cells, including collaboration with external fabrication partners when required.
- Perform experimental testing, data analysis, and system optimization.
- Assist with the integration of optical, RF, electrical, and mechanical components into sensing systems.
- Support the transition of research prototypes into manufacturable products through documentation, testing, and design improvements.
- Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and external research partners to advance product development.
- Contribute to technical reports, publications, patent applications, and customer-funded research projects as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- PhD’s degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics
- Quantum sensing or atomic sensors
- Alkali vapor cell fabrication or MEMS processes
- Experience with experimental data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or similar software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on laboratory experience with optical experiments, lasers, vacuum systems, spectroscopy, or related experimental techniques.
- Experience with MEMS fabrication, glass bonding, wafer processing, or microfabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with RF sensing, photonics, or optical system integration.
- Experience developing prototypes or transferring research into practical hardware.
- Experience working in industrial research or collaborative research environments.
