We are seeking highly motivated individuals in developing the next generation single-photon detectors basedon semiconductor metasurfaces. At the heart of our detectors is a carefully engineered metasurface — an array of nanostructures whose shape and geometry are tuned to absorb light with near-unity efficiency while controlling where that absorption happens.
QuantumCore Inc. is hiring a full-time Electrical Engineer to design and develop high-speed control electronics around these novel semiconductor metasurfaces to read-out the single-photon detectors with high speed and timing resolution. The role focuses on the design, implementation, and testing of high-speed/RF, analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics for III-V semiconductor based single-photon detectors. The successful candidate will design and build high-performance readout, measurement, and characterization systems for novel nanostructured single-photon detectors, working closely with researchers and engineers in photonics, nanofabrication, and quantum technologies.
Responsibilities
• Design, prototype, and validate high-speed single-photon detector test boards and readout circuits
• Develop analog, digital, and mixed-signal systems for device characterization, including amplification, filtering, ADC integration, timing, triggering, and computer interfacing
• Lead high-speed/RF circuit design activities, including signal integrity, impedance matching, bandwidth optimization, noise analysis, and measurement setup development
• Develop and characterize custom PCBs and laboratory test systems
• Perform electrical and optoelectronic testing of nanostructured single-photon detectors
• Develop Python software for automated testing, instrument control, signal processing, and data analysis
• Document designs, test procedures, measurement results, and engineering trade-offs clearly and
rigorously
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams working in electronics, photonics, nanofabrication, and quantum technologies
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in electronic system development in an industry, research, or advanced laboratory environment
• Demonstrated experience designing, building, and testing high-speed/RF circuits or high-bandwidth
measurement systems
• Strong experience with analog and digital mixed-signal circuit design
• Familiarity with PCB design, bring-up, debugging, and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, function generators, and power supplies
• Strong Python programming skills
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently while communicating clearly with a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad)
• Experience with low-noise analog front-end design, transimpedance amplifiers, or photodetector readoutcircuits
• Experience with impedance-controlled PCB layout, high-speed interconnects, RF connectors, shielding, grounding, and electromagnetic interference mitigation
• Familiarity with optoelectronic device testing, lasers, optical alignment, and laboratory instrumentation
• Experience with FPGA, embedded-system, or high-speed data-acquisition interfaces
• Experience with SPICE-based simulation or signal-integrity analysis tools
• Interest in photonics, semiconductor devices, quantum technologies, or optical communications
