A rapidly scaling Canadian technology company operating in the financial services space is seeking a Director of Cybersecurity to lead and evolve its enterprise-wide security strategy. This full-time opportunity is based in Canada (hybrid environment) and centers on safeguarding modern digital platforms, customer data, and internal systems across a growing North American footprint.
This role is ideal for a security leader who enjoys balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution. You’ll play a key role in shaping how security is embedded across the organization, from product development to vendor partnerships, while working closely with senior leadership. Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, IT risk, or information security roles
- Proven ability to develop or manage security programs in a complex, multi-system environment
- Strong understanding of risk identification, control design, and mitigation strategies
- Experience working with governance and compliance tools or frameworks
- Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CRISC, or similar are highly preferred
- Ability to communicate security concepts clearly to both technical teams and executive stakeholders
- Background working in regulated environments or industries with strong compliance requirements
- Familiarity with audit preparation and coordination processes
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting or leading compliance initiatives tied to industry standards (e.g., SOC frameworks, payment security standards)
- Working knowledge of areas such as access control, threat detection, and vulnerability management
- Exposure to third-party/vendor risk evaluation and lifecycle management
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams to incorporate security into development practices
- General awareness of evolving data protection laws and regulatory expectations
- Strong problem-solving mindset with an ability to anticipate and address emerging risks
