ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Digital & Operations Officer, the Vice President, IT Operations & Infrastructure is a member of the senior leadership team, responsible for contributing to the development of strategies and for the development and execution of operational and business plans which support Assiniboine Credit Union / Caisse Assiniboine (ACU) in achieving its strategic goals in support of ACU’s vision, mission, purpose and aligned with ACU’s values.
From the perspective of merger, this position is pivotal to a successful cultural, operational, and structural integration of organizations, ensuring that employees are engaged, valued, and supported pre- and post-merger and is absolutely critical to realize the full potential of the merger through a united workforce.
As a senior leader, this role is key to supporting ACU’s commitment to rural and agricultural communities, francophone services and values-based banking and ACU’s triple bottom line accountability to people, planet and prosperity.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Leadership
- Leads, develops, and mentors a high performing team of IT services, infrastructure, and information security team members, to deliver and exceed expectations while coaching team members to realize their professional development goals.
- Adopts and sustains Engaging with Purpose practices including one on one coaching, observational coaching through team meetings and one-on-ones.
- Encourages creativity, ideation, and innovative thinking by all employees to move beyond traditional ways of doing things and push past status quo.
- Develops effective working relationships across all departments and with internal partners, acting as One Assiniboine to achieve ACU’s strategic objectives.
- Maintains overall department service levels and standards, ensuring team capabilities support the delivery and execution of strategic and operational plans to consistently deliver business outcomes.
- Accountable for the budgets of the department that ensure cost efficient corporate spending based on business need including all capital, operating and personnel expenditures.
- Informs the annual budget and goal planning process setting achievable and aspirational targets that are aligned to ACU’s strategic objectives.
- Implements workforce plans aligning resources based on organizational and operational needs, using data to inform decisions.
- Champion ACU’s commitment to rural and agricultural communities, francophone services, values-based banking, respectful workplace and diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Act as an ambassador of ACU by being visible in the organization and the community in support of corporate and community initiatives.
- Identify and leverage opportunities to engage in the promotion of ACU products and services.
Merger Leadership
- Foster employee engagement through regular and effective communication, championing change, positively addressing employee concerns, building trust, and supporting productivity through all phases of the merger.
- Serve as a visible and approachable leader, promoting shared values and a unified corporate culture, to ensure employees feel connected and valued through all phases of the merger.
- Ensure that employees understand the benefits of the merger and are equipped to adapt to new and/or changing policies, procedures, processes, systems, and structures. Identify and work to positively and collaboratively to address resistance to change.
- Invest, ensuring alignment with partners on merger integration priorities and timelines.
Strategic/Operational Planning & Execution
- Leads the development of IT operations and infrastructure strategies, principles, and the planning, development, prioritization and execution of plans in support of Assiniboine Credit Union’s values, mission, strategic plans and projects.
- Develop and implement forward-thinking infrastructure strategies that enable organizational goals and drive innovation across all areas of the business, leveraging cloud technologies and modern infrastructure solutions.
- Identifies and leads initiatives to ensure infrastructure efficiency, operational resilience, and business continuity.
- Leads and oversees implementation of architectural standards, patterns, and practices that promote consistency, reliability, and adaptability across our infrastructure landscape.
- Establishes and maintains robust operational processes and procedures to optimize resource utilization, minimize downtime, and mitigate risks.
- Implements performance monitoring and analytics tools to proactively identify and address infrastructure issues and bottlenecks.
- Leads the development of playbooks and runbooks to standardize operational procedures and workflows.
- Leads the evolution and maturation of IT Service Management (ITSM) capabilities to enhance service delivery, improve incident response times, and elevate the overall member and employee experience.
- Implements industry best practices, such as ITIL, to standardize service management processes, streamline service desk operations, and drive continuous service improvement.
- Leads the implementation of service catalog and service level management process to improve transparency and accountability.
- Oversees the information and cyber security programs including identification, assessment, and mitigation of cybersecurity risks across all systems, networks, and applications.
- Establishes incident response protocols and leads investigations into security breaches, ensuring timely resolution and mitigation of impact.
- Develops and manages modern workplace solutions, processes, procedures, and support for distributed workforce (in-office, remote, and hybrid).
Partner & Vendor Relations
- Responsible for the development, maintenance, and quality of applicable partner, supplier, and vendor relationships.
- Leads vendor management and leverages agreements to get the best value for the company, including holding vendors accountable to delivering within SLAs and contracts.
- Supports vendor negotiation process considering the cross functional aspects of ACUs business; including but not limited to project management and ongoing support.
Regulation & Compliance
- Manage and mitigate risk through adherence to policy and procedure with focus on accuracy.
- Review and contribute to the development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance, internal control, and adherence to legislation.
- Accountable for leadership and coordination of internal and external audits to strengthen internal controls and operations.
- Support Internal Audit in the completion of regular reviews and audits and ensure accountability to resulting action plans.
- Responsible for testing on a periodic basis to ensure the appropriate solutions are in place to allow ACU to recover (Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Planning).
- Responsible for cyber security end user awareness training, testing, and monitoring of maturity level.
- Responsible for testing on a periodic basis to ensure that the corporate data is secure (i.e. intrusion testing, ethical hacks, etc.).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, business or equivalent plus 10 or more years of relevant experience with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in technology management. Master level degrees in any of the related fields would be considered an asset. Advanced reading, writing and oral skills in both official languages, English and French, are preferred.
