Position Overview:
This position is part of a newly developing area within our organization. As such, the responsibilities and scope of the role may evolve over time to meet emerging business needs. We are looking for candidates who are adaptable, comfortable with change, and excited by the opportunity to help shape and grow this function from the ground up.
Reporting to the Chief Security Officer, this role provides strategic leadership and oversight for physical and personnel security functions, ensuring the protection of employees, assets, and infrastructure across Manitoba Hydro. This role is responsible for executing the company's security vision, aligning physical and personnel programs with business objectives, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This role will lead the evolution of the security team by accelerating progress of initiatives to increase capabilities and reduce key risks in physical and personnel security domains. This position will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on risk mitigation and resilience strategies for electric and natural gas operations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for the enterprise-wide security program, including governance, policy development, and alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Advise executive leadership and the Board on emerging security risks, threat trends, and investment priorities.
- Establish and oversee critical security programs, including personnel security, insider risk management, threat intelligence, safety officer program and integrated physical-cyber security initiatives.
- Lead enterprise risk assessments, vulnerability management, and protective strategies for critical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with NERC CIP and applicable standards.
- Act as the senior liaison with government, regulatory bodies, law enforcement, emergency services, and industry partners on security matters.
- Lead crisis management, emergency response planning, and major security incident investigations, serving as a key decision-maker during significant events.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing Corporate Security team while fostering a strong culture of security awareness across the organization.
- Manage the corporate security budget, approve technology investments, and drive innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement across security operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Risk Management or related field and nine years of progressive experience in corporate or utility security and demonstrating progressively greater responsibility in a supervisory/leadership capacity;
- OR
- An equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Must meet requirements to obtain/hold a Government of Canada Secret Clearance.
- Deep knowledge of critical infrastructure protection, regulatory compliance, and utility operations.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Incident Command System (ICS), or equivalent highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of:
- - NERC CIP
- - NIST CSF
- - CIS Controls
- - Physical and personnel security control frameworks
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $62.82-$86.07 Hourly, $120,372.72-$164,936.72 Annually.
