IT Trainer
Role Overview
- Location: Fredericton – Knowledge Park (On-site)
- Duration: 12–14 weeks (12-week training delivery + prep/wrap-up)
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours/week)
- Pay Rate: 40/hour
- Requirement: Basic criminal check, employment and education ( no clearance)
- Start Date ; technically the training is supposed to start on April 7 but might be pushed a little bit
The Mission
The goal of this program is to foster Indigenous economic development in New Brunswick by providing specialized Cyber Security training to a small group (up to 8 students). These participants come from JEDI’s Indigenous Adult Learning & Literacy (IALL) program. Last year’s program was a major success, resulting in three students securing internships.
The Training Format
The curriculum is already fully developed. Your role is to deliver the content effectively:
- Mornings: Theoretical sessions (classroom style).
- Afternoons: Practical lab sessions (hands-on application).
Who We Are Looking For
While technical expertise is required, the most critical skill for this role is the ability to teach and mentor. We need someone who can make complex topics approachable and engaging.
Technical Requirements:
- Knowledge of Network Security Principles, Network Infrastructures and Network Protocols.
Soft Skills & Teaching Profile:
- Experience as a Trainer/Teacher: Ability to deliver technical content to adult learners.
- Personable & Engaging: You should be able to make the sessions entertaining and build strong rapport with students.
- Community-Minded: A passion for supporting Indigenous adult learners in mastering workplace essential skills and computer literacy.

We are seeking an IT Trainer for the National Digital Excellence Centre to join our team and support with the delivery of a 12 weeks training program.
You will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive 12-week training program focused on Network Security, System Hardening, and Vulnerability & Penetration Testing, leveraging our advanced Cyber Range environment. Through engaging coursework, hands-on labs, and real-world scenarios, you will help participants master key topics such as network topologies, security devices, cryptography, OS and service hardening, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing methods, and secure identity management. As part of our team, you will contribute to the development of a skilled workforce dedicated to protecting digital infrastructure and driving innovation in cyber security.
Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility
· Deliver Specialized Cyber Security Training: Facilitate interactive, instructor-led sessions covering Network Security, System Hardening, and Vulnerability & Penetration Testing topics, ensuring all course objectives are met over the 12-week period.
· Hands-On Lab Facilitation: Guide participants through practical exercises in the Cyber Range, simulating real-world scenarios in areas such as packet analysis, cryptography, network troubleshooting, vulnerability assessment, web and network penetration testing, and system hardening.
· Update Training Materials when applicable: Design, maintain, and enhance course content, presentations, lab exercises, and assessment materials to ensure accuracy and alignment with industry standards
· Evaluate Participant Progress: Assess learners’ knowledge and skills and provide constructive feedback and support as needed to ensure success.
· Support Curriculum Innovation: Work collaboratively with our subject matter experts to continuously improve the quality, relevance, and delivery methods of the training program.
· Foster Participant Engagement: Utilize varied instructional techniques and media to motivate, engage, and support a diverse group of learners with different backgrounds and experience levels.
Minimum Requirements: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, Language
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field. Equivalent years of experience will also be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in cyber security, network administration, or IT training roles.
- Proven experience in delivering technical training and conducting practical labs.
Technical Skills:
- Solid understanding of network infrastructures, network protocols, and network security principles.
- Hands-on expertise in system hardening (Windows, Linux) and secure configuration of servers and endpoints.
- Practical experience with vulnerability assessment tools (e.g., Nessus, OpenVAS) and penetration testing methodologies/tools (e.g., Metasploit, Kali Linux).
- Familiarity with cryptography, PKI, and secure identity management
· Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
