Why is this role important?
Under the direction of the Senior Privacy Consultant, the Program Specialist supports in evolving and maintaining CIHI’s privacy policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and industry best practices related to personal health and workforce information. This role involves conducting research, assisting with privacy impact assessments, managing privacy incidents, coordinating audits, and promoting privacy awareness across the organization.
What you'll do
1. Research, and synthesize data and information on matters relating to the collection, use, disclosure, retention and disposition of personal information and personal health information.
2. Support the development, amendment, implementation and application of privacy policies within CIHI. Provide advice to internal stakeholders.
3. Participate in investigating privacy incidents and breaches and recommending corrective actions for senior management consideration.
4. Contributes to Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) by providing expertise and risk management guidance to program areas and projects.
5. Coordinate external audits and ongoing compliance monitoring activities.
6. Coordinates the approvals of linkage requests and tracking approval and destruction dates.
7. Contributes to the prescribed entity renewal process as per the Information and Privacy Commissioner’s requirements, including updating policies and procedures.
8. Advise on third-party data requests to ensure compliance with privacy policies and data destruction requirements.
9. Promote awareness and increase adoption of privacy best practices, by supporting aspects of the annual privacy training, creating resources and awareness campaigns.
10. Collaborate with Information Security to ensure alignment between security and privacy practices.
11. Maintains and oversees the privacy team records, including organizing, tracking and updating files to support efficient retrieval, compliance and continuity of operations.
12. Monitors emerging issues, trends and developments in the area of privacy protection, assessing implications for CIHI.
13. Contribute to privacy projects and initiatives to support the privacy program.
What you'll bring to the table
• Undergraduate degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Law, Information Security or other related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. CIPP/C Certification is an asset.
• 3-5 years’ experience working in privacy or information security, with a focus on policy development or privacy protection.
• Experience in the health sector, research, or information security or technology is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of privacy principles, frameworks and legislation such as Privacy by Design, Fair information Principles, PHIPA, etc.
• Experience in conducting Privacy Impact Assessments or other types of risk-based assessments is an asset.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, research and communication skills.
• Effective planning and coordination skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to communicate complex ideas in simple terminology.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset
