Reporting to the Information Security Manager, this role is pivotal in supporting the Information Security Manager by investigating security alerts and incidents, as well as assisting in triaging to work towards resolutions. Additionally, the role involves documenting standard operating procedures, detailing tasks and best practices. As Information Technology Services continues to prioritize enhancing our information security posture, a significant part of this role includes the due diligence required to investigate alerts and commit to continuously improving our response to security threats efficiently and promptly. This role is a key step in ensuring the protection of digital assets and mitigating and liability to the town.
Accountabilities:
- Regularly checking and analyzing security systems to detect and respond to potential threats
- Identifying and assessing vulnerabilities in systems and networks
- Assisting with the investigation and response to security incidents and breaches
- Assisting in the implementation of security measures and controls to protect data and systems
- Creating and maintaining documentation for security policies, procedures, and protocols
- Continuously educating stakeholders about security best practices and the importance of cybersecurity protocols to ensure all staff are aware of potential threats and how to respond to them to mitigate risks to the organization
- Ensuring systems follow security protocols.
- Staying informed about the latest cybersecurity threats and trends to help develop proactive defense strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include taking on additional responsibilities, supporting other team members, and adapting to changing priorities and tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a College Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology focusing on cyber security
- Possess an interest in the field of cyber security
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows 10 and Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Possess or working toward ISC2-CC certification or similar would be considered an asset.
- Familiarity with IT systems, infrastructure, and basic cybersecurity concepts.
- Ability to analyze data and business processes to identify improvements and develop effective solutions.
- Basic understanding of project management principles and the ability to assist in managing projects.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, along with problem-solving abilities to address challenges and implement innovative solutions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various departments
- Proficiency in creating and maintaining functional and technical documentation for systems and processes.
Compensation:
The compensation rate for this temporary student contract position is $25.47 per hour (35 hours per week). Duration of Contract is approximately eight (8) months.
Location:
This position allows a blend of working onsite and remotely based on the needs of the business, in accordance with the Town’s Work from Home Policy, and as subject to change. This position will also require some flexibility in the incumbent’s availability and work schedule.
