The Opportunity
Sundance College is currently seeking to fill the permanent full-time role of combined Cybersecurity Instructor/IT Support.This role is an on-campus position at our campus in Edmonton, Alberta.
Instructor: The Cybersecurity Instructor will play a key role in delivering high-quality education in cybersecurity and supporting courses within the NSM and MWD programs. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, relevant industry experience, and a dedication to student success.
IT Support: They will be working in the IT team providing support for campus staff and students. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, relevant industry experience, and a dedication to student success.
Key Responsibilities
Instructor
- Deliver engaging, industry-relevant instruction in cybersecurity, covering topics such as network security, penetration testing, incident response, and more.
- Provide mentorship and support to students, ensuring their understanding and success in both theoretical and practical aspects of cybersecurity.
- Assist with teaching and grading in NSM and MWD programs, utilizing a broad understanding of IT systems.
- Stay current with emerging trends, tools, and frameworks in cybersecurity to enhance instructional quality.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving.
IT Support
- Provide day to day technical and administrative support to staff and students for Microsoft Windows, Azure, M365 and other software systems as required
- Support IT infrastructure needs, such as network and security camera administration and maintenance
- Prioritize and document help desk requests track and ensure timely resolutions
- Work collegially in a team setting with other IT Team members
- General administration and reporting tasks as assigned
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
Instructor
- Education: Degree or diploma in Cybersecurity, IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Direct industry experience in cybersecurity or a related IT field is required.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, including network security, penetration testing, Linux and incident response.
- Familiarity with tools and frameworks used in cybersecurity education.
- Broad understanding of IT systems to support instruction in NSM and MWD programs.
- Certifications (Preferred): Security+, A+, Network +, CCNA Routing & Switching or equivalent certifications are a strong asset.
IT Support
- Diploma in desktop support, networking or a relevant field;
- Industry experience in a helpdesk support role is an asset
- Experience performing simple hardware upgrades and repairs on laptops
- Exceptional phone etiquette, communication and customer service skills.
- Good analytical & problem-solving skills.
- Reliable, punctual, organized and personable
Strong working knowledge of:
- Desktop and Laptop computers including basic upgrades and repairs
- Networking hardware and monitoring software
- Azure, M365 and associated Microsoft technologies.
