The Saskatchewan Liquor & Gaming Authority is seeking an experienced, innovative, and self-motivated permanent full-time Network Architect to join its dynamic Information Technology Branch. The Network Architect is responsible for architecting, implementing, securing, and maintaining SLGA’s networks, which includes computers, cloud-based technologies and connections, security devices and firewalls. The duties include working on network devices to set policies, administer networks, secure, and protect data, hardware, and software. This position is responsible for strategic planning, network architecture, staffing levels, mentorship, and training of network analysts.

This position is also responsible for identifying all strategic priorities related to network infrastructure and will contribute area expertise to large scale strategic initiatives. They will evaluate new and existing architecture and design or make changes as applicable.

The Network Architect works with IT staff and system users across various levels of a company and must have extensive knowledge of technology infrastructure and networking products to be successful. The Network Architect also works with other architects, network analysts, IT teams, project team, and is responsible for the transition of network items to operations.

Job Duties

Ensure that proposed and existing network architecture is secured and aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
Review organizational goals, sometimes confidential, and make architecture decisions.
Recommend staffing requirements for network implementation and maintenance.
Identify 3rd party budget requirement for network implementation and maintenance.
Create a network security framework including policies that will affect SLGA users and clients.
Strategic planning related to network components and architecture which will include new technologies and related budget requirements.
Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of network infrastructure to make decisions/recommendations on technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and flexibility and ensure security.
Planning for the installation and configuration of SLGA’s network infrastructure.
Required to trouble shoot and resolve advanced network support issues.
Performs monitoring of network systems and elements to ensure reliability and integrity of computer environments.
Acquires and maintains current knowledge of relevant product offerings and support policies to provide technically accurate solutions to customers.

Required Technical Skills and Qualifications

Typically, the knowledge and qualifications required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of a 2-4 year technical certification or diploma course from a recognized IT educational institution
Minimum of Ten years networking experience or a combination of education and experience
Experience leading teams, planning and implementing major network projects
Professional Network certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) is an asset
Expert knowledge of Cisco networking components including switching, routing, firewalls, and wireless technologies is required for the provision, support, troubleshooting and improvement of these services within SLGA
Expert knowledge of FortiGate firewalls
Expert knowledge of F5 web application firewall (WAF), internet technologies and web gateway (proxy)
A demonstrated knowledge and experience of information technology infrastructure library (ITIL) processes and procedures
Ability to write detailed technical materials, diagnose technical problems, pay close attention to details, and apply technical instructions as required.
