Job Summary:
The Security Analyst is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security incidents across the organization’s IT infrastructure. They work proactively to identify vulnerabilities, develop security protocols, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards to safeguard the organization’s data and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and Respond to Security Alerts: Continuously monitor security systems for any breaches or unusual activity. Investigate and respond to security incidents in real-time.
- Vulnerability Assessments: Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify weaknesses in systems and networks.
- Incident Response: Manage and coordinate the response to security breaches, including containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident reporting.
- Security Tools Management: Configure, maintain, and monitor security tools such as firewalls, antivirus programs, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) systems, and intrusion detection systems.
- Risk Analysis: Perform risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Security Awareness Training: Conduct training sessions for employees to raise awareness about security policies, best practices, and emerging threats.
- Policy Development and Enforcement: Develop, update, and enforce information security policies and procedures in line with best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration with IT Teams: Work closely with IT teams to implement security measures during system upgrades, new installations, and application development.
- Threat Intelligence: Stay informed about the latest cyber threats and security trends by analyzing threat intelligence and sharing insights with relevant stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in network security, system administration, and threat analysis tools (e.g., firewalls, SIEM tools, IDS/IPS).
- Cybersecurity Certifications (preferred): CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
- Knowledge of Compliance Standards: Familiarity with security regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001 preferred but not required
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex security issues and devise effective solutions under pressure.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical details to non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical Thinking: Proficiency in analyzing security data and logs to identify and mitigate threats.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on detail to ensure no vulnerabilities are missed.
Experience:
- 2 plus years of experience in a cybersecurity or IT security role.
- Experience with security incident handling, risk management, and conducting security audits.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
Work Environment:
- Full-time position (not contract) and fully remote
- May require occasional on-call work to respond to security incidents outside of regular business hours.
Travel:
- Throughout Canada and USA- 15% of the time
