Engineer 1 (NERC CIP Compliance Grid Operations)

What you'll do
As an engineer in training, the candidate is expected to work under supervision of a senior engineer to investigate, analyze
and solve a variety of engineering problems, including the more challenging and unusual aspects of Real Time Systems.
The candidate is also expected to complete a comprehensive formal training to upgrade technical skills and knowledge
related to the specific control systems, applications and software used by BC Hydro in order to reach a level of readiness to
support the following Real Time Operations and BC Hydro business objectives:
- Recommend continuous improvements to the existing BC Hydro processes and procedures related to reliable real time
systems operation, compliance and security.
- Ensure that BC Hydro has processes and procedures in place to comply with the NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection
(CIP) Security Standards and map these standards to BC Hydro internal processes.
- Recommend upgrades to BC Hydro Energy Management System (EMS) Infrastructure to ensure compliance with NERC
CIP standards and industry best practises.
- Trouble shooting Energy Management System problems related to SCADA, infrastructure, operating systems,
databases, integration and software.
- Create and periodically review documentation asserting BC Hydro EMS compliance to NERC CIP standards.
- Ensure that existing compliance processes and procedures are adhered to and that audit evidence is collected and
maintained.
- Represent BC Hydro during internal and external NERC CIP audits. Respond to internal and external requests to provide
proof of compliance to NERC CIP standards where needed.
- Act as the subject matter expert for the RTS use of the SigmaFlow application for managing CIP compliance workflows.
- Manage and improve technical compliance tools such as Tripwire Enterprise, Tripwire IP360, Tenable Nessus, ArcSight,
Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Microsoft SharePoint.
- Ensure BC Hydro’s current Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework for the maintenance of EMS
infrastructure is maintained and improved.
- Manage access control and monitoring processes.
What you bring
- Two years or less work experience towards EGBC’s Professional Engineer requirement.
- An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering recognized by universities in Canada.
- Background knowledge and completed technical courses related to the maintenance and operation of Energy
Management Systems (EMS) with an emphasis on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) functionality and
modeling is an asset.
- Knowledge of the NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Security Standards and knowledge and implementation
experience in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices is an asset.
- Security and System Administration and Software Development experience is an asset.
- Background knowledge in the area of WAN and LAN network design, network management, including firewalls,
switches, security software (as anti-virus, IDS, event and alarm monitoring, security incident and event monitoring (SIEM).
- Have very good knowledge of various platforms computer security and general system administration (Windows, Linux,
Cisco IOS).
- Proficiency in ORACLE or SQL database management and sustainment is an asset.
