About The Position
This is a temporary, full time support staff I/O position; this role will start in September 2024 and end in September 2026 - working 35 hours per week at an hourly rate of $30.00.
Reporting to the DTL Manager, and taking direction and guidance from research centre Coordinators/Managers and working closely with the research teams, the candidate will function as a Research Technician working on different research projects in computer science and engineering including software and web development. These will be in close collaboration with other research staff, including research students, industry partners and Research and Innovation Office staff where the Research Scientist will be lead.
The incumbent’s duties will be supporting collaborative research projects, software development, testing, generating reports and presentations, communicating with industry partners as instructed, maintaining research equipment and contract testing.
Specific Accountabilities
Technical Duties
- Carry out research projects in computer science and engineering.
- Conduct and help with research activities including literature review, data analysis, and experimentation in collaboration with researchers and industry partners
- Be involved with direct projects and maintain accurate reports.
- Support with analysis and design of experiments for research projects:
- design,
- implementation,
- installation,
- calibration
- documentation.
- Provide consultancy support to partners, industry representatives for development of new
projects
- Help to prepare technical reports and presentation for research partners
- Work with researchers to design and develop work plans and coordinate time lines for project
completion
- Attend meetings with research teams and industry partners to update activities
- Help the supervisor with coordination of research student’s activities
- Help with selection, installation and implementation of various software and installation.
- Ensure that the projects comply with health and safety regulations, College policies, WHMIS,
and cybersecurity.
- Ensure that quality standards are maintained
Administration Duties
- Work with the supervisor and Applied Research and Innovation Office to prepare purchase
orders
- Liaising with research partners, suppliers, contractors, and relevant authorities for
purchasing as well as executing required tasks
- Work with supervisor and Applied Research and Innovation Office for project management
within cost and time constrained environments.
- Work with Supervisor to develop task list for research students
- Support the Research Lead in collaboration with Applied Research Outreach Coordinator to
prepare content for promotional literature such as website content, brochures or flyers and
coordinates printing and distribution
- Help with tours to future partners, major contributors and guests.
Other Duties
These duties will be assigned by the manager and may include liaison with research partners and other staff at the College.
Qualifications
- At minimum a 2 year post-secondary diploma/degree in Computer Science & Engineering
- At minimum 1 year experience in software development
- Familiar with database tools, programming languages and testing tools
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft office
- Strong commitment to overall health and safety
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and evaluation skills required to troubleshoot, problem-solve and provide analytical solutions to a wide variety of situations
