The Health Information Systems Division is responsible for the administration of Alberta’s Health Information Act including health information policy and advice as well as the strategic planning and delivery of information management and technology systems and services that support the strategic goals of the Ministry and the health system.

The Privacy and Security team within the Ministry of Health is looking for a strong team player to join the Health Information Act (HIA) Policy, Privacy & Security branch. As the Privacy Advisor, you bring in-depth knowledge of privacy and access legislation and provide to stakeholders. Your knowledge of privacy legislations, including Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) and Personal Information and Protection Act (PIPA) will provide strong and comprehensive service and privacy related advice to our partners and clients.
The Privacy Advisor reports to the Privacy Manager. The main responsibilities encompass: Preparation and maintenance of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs)
- Privacy Compliance Activities
- Privacy Administration
- General Privacy Advice
The Privacy Advisor works across the department including legal and legislative services and senior officials, with contractors and external health system stakeholders such as health authorities, health service providers, health professional associations, with cross ministry programs and privacy colleagues and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.

Qualifications
University Degree in related field supplemented by a minimum of two years directly related experience is required.
Equivalency
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
The Following Are Considered Assets To The Position
- Certificate in Information Access and Protection of Privacy desirable;
- In depth knowledge of the HIA, FOIP, and PIPA legislation highly desirable;
- Knowledge and/or experience with the health system
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, interview techniques and an effective consultative approach required;
- Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills
- Familiarity with computer networks, information technology and systems, and e-government initiatives
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and SharePoint

Hours of Work
7.25 hours daily/ 36.25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday
Location
This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy).
