Job Description

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Director, Data Privacy, Risk and Compliance, you’ll be responsible for managing OGC’s privacy operations by leading the development and delivery of privacy training, providing subject matter expertise on complex privacy issues, conducting privacy risk assessments, developing, and implementing privacy protocols, managing privacy-related inquiries, and leading the investigation and resolution of privacy incidents.

The Core Parts Of Your Role Will Be To

  • Develop and execute the strategic direction of OGC’s privacy program, ensuring compliance with applicable data protection legislation and industry best practices.
  • Provide expert privacy advice and recommendations to all levels of leadership and business, ensuring compliance with privacy standards, policy, and legislation.
  • Develop and implement OGC’s privacy training program and promote a culture of privacy through employee awareness of OGC privacy standards.
  • Leads the process for conducting privacy impact assessments (PIA) for technology applications and business projects, to ensure compliance with organizational policies, privacy legislation and contractual obligations.
  • Lead and is responsible for the investigation of privacy incidents, managing the incident response plan, mitigating risk, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence through post-incident review.
  • Responsible for privacy risk reviews of third-party service providers.
  • Provide privacy subject matter expertise in complex projects and assignments, integrating privacy-by-design principles and establishing cross-functional, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the Director, Data Privacy, Risk and Compliance by identifying and escalating significant privacy issues and/or risks for prompt resolution.
  • Develop and maintain oversight mechanisms and/or audits to monitor and verify compliance with privacy protocols and related legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Develop and enhance privacy management program metrics, monitoring activities and trends and continuously contribute to improving information and privacy practices.
  • Collaborate with the Technology and Information Security Teams to develop and improve data security standards and governance on emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with and support operational risk management to mitigate organizational risks and improve business resiliency.
  • Leads the performance management process by communicating job expectations and tracking progress of individual activities and effectiveness. This includes determining team and individual goals, offering job coaching, training, motivation, and support to help employees meet objectives and quality requirements, reviewing progress, and offering feedback as required.

Qualifications

This is the unique blend of skills and experience we would love to see in an ideal candidate:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a privacy manager, or in a senior privacy lead role, preferably within an insurance or financial services organization.
  • In depth knowledge and practical application of federal and provincial privacy legislation. A CIPP/C designation is preferred and/or willingness to attain.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and legal information effectively and clearly to all levels of the organization and leadership forums.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders to achieve privacy compliance requirements.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to manage multiple accountabilities and priorities.
  • Innovative and a self-starter with good research, analysis and report writing abilities meeting quality standards and deadlines and able to develop and implement new policies and practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and Power BI.
  • A university degree or college diploma in business or a related field.
  • A CRM designation is considered an asset.
  • The ability to communicate in French (verbal and written) is considered an asset.
