The Director, Privacy Compliance and Privacy Counsel is integral to the success of the Policy Legal & Public Affairs team, and to CAAT’s guiding mission and growth strategy.


Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal Affairs, the Director, Privacy Compliance and Privacy Counsel will oversee CAAT’s Privacy Management Program and help foster a privacy conscious culture across CAAT. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and enforcement of CAAT’s privacy policies, and practices, and for providing legal, risk and strategic advice on a wide range of privacy, cybersecurity and data management matters.


We are looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor of law (LL. B, J.D) and qualified to practice law in Ontario.
  • IAPP certified (CIPP, CIPM) or willing to attain in first year of employment.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in privacy law and/or compliance.


The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience in developing and implementing a compliance program.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable privacy and data protection laws (including PIPEDA and Canadian provincial/territorial privacy laws).
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal) with effective group presentation and stakeholder engagement abilities, including the ability to translate complex regulatory standards or legal concepts in a manner that can be understood by a functionally diverse audience.


Once here you will:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve CAAT’s Privacy Management Program by ensuring that policies, practices, and processes reflect the expectations of our stakeholders and the requirements of applicable privacy laws and industry standards.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with stakeholders across the organization and be a trusted advisor on issues related to privacy law and compliance.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and analyze and report on the applicability and impact of emerging privacy laws to CAAT’s operations.
  • Handle security incidents involving personal information and put into practice CAAT’s Privacy Incident Readiness and Response Plan, as necessary.
  • Develop a holistic privacy awareness training program, which includes targeted training for new personnel and business units that process personal information as part of their job duties or through various projects or initiatives.
  • Maintain and put into practice CAAT’s records retention schedule and CASL compliance program.
  • Review, draft and advise on privacy provisions in complex enterprise contracts and other legal documents and provide proactive and solutions-based legal advice and recommendations to CAAT’s leadership in relation to privacy related matters.
  • Assist various departments and functions across the organization with setting up processes for meeting filing deadlines and other similar tasks from a broader regulatory perspective.
