Position Summary
The IT Support Contractor will be responsible for providing technical support across multiple business locations and departments. The scope of work will range from routine hardware troubleshooting and end-user support to complex infrastructure projects, software implementations, network configuration, cybersecurity initiatives, and technology planning.
The successful candidate will possess excellent troubleshooting skills, strong communication abilities, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues before they impact business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide remote and on-site technical support as required.
- Respond to urgent IT issues in a timely manner and prioritize critical operational disruptions.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, networking, printer, and connectivity issues.
- Repair, maintain, configure, and deploy laptops, desktops, monitors, printers, mobile devices, and peripheral equipment.
- Set up new employee workstations, user accounts, email accounts, and software.
- Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Support Microsoft 365 administration, user permissions, licensing, and account management.
- Troubleshoot Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) environments.
- Assist with Wi-Fi, networking equipment, VPN access, internet connectivity, firewalls, and network security.
- Maintain company devices, ensuring operating systems, software, and security updates remain current.
- Coordinate hardware replacements, upgrades, preventative maintenance, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Assist with implementation of new technology, software deployments, infrastructure upgrades, and system migrations.
- Work collaboratively with our external IT providers, telecommunications vendors, software vendors, and other technology partners on larger projects and escalated technical issues.
- Maintain documentation for hardware inventory, software licensing, network configurations, passwords, and IT procedures.
- Monitor system performance and proactively recommend improvements to increase efficiency, security, and reliability.
- Assist with cybersecurity best practices, endpoint protection, user access controls, backups, disaster recovery, and technology compliance.
- Provide technical recommendations for future technology purchases, infrastructure improvements, and long-term IT planning.
Availability & Response Expectations
Due to the nature of our operations, the successful contractor must be available to provide support on an on-call basis.
While many projects and maintenance activities can be scheduled in advance, unexpected technical issues will require immediate attention to minimize operational disruption.
The successful contractor must be:
- Available to respond to urgent support requests during and outside of normal business hours, when required.
- Able to begin remote troubleshooting promptly following notification of a critical issue.
- Available to travel to company locations on short notice whenever an issue cannot be resolved remotely.
- Comfortable supporting multiple business locations and prioritizing critical operational issues.
- Willing to serve as our primary point of contact for day-to-day IT support.
- Committed to maintaining excellent response times and clear communication during both routine support requests and emergency situations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience providing IT support in a business environment.
- Experience operating as an independent IT contractor or within a small managed IT services business is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting both remote and on-site users.
- Ability to independently diagnose and resolve technical issues with minimal supervision.
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation for travel between company locations.
Pay: $21.00-$30.00 per hour
