WHO WE ARE

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was established in 1999 as an international independent agency to lead a collaborative worldwide movement for doping-free sport. As the global regulatory body, WADA’s primary role is to develop, harmonize and coordinate anti-doping rules and policies across all sports and countries. Our key activities include: scientific and social science research; education; intelligence & investigations; development of anti-doping capacity; and, monitoring of compliance with the World Anti-Doping Program.


POSITION OVERVIEW


We are seeking an experienced privacy counsel to lead WADA’s privacy management program, as well as WADA’s efforts to harmonize the protection of privacy and data within the global anti-doping community via the International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information, one of eight international standards that regulate anti-doping globally.


MAIN CHALLENGES


  • Lead WADA’s privacy management program;
  • Lead efforts to harmonize the implementation of the International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Advise top management and organizational leaders on privacy and data risk matters;
  • Conduct legal assessments of data processing activities;
  • Lead WADA’s privacy management program, including by identifying and managing risk, and developing and maintaining appropriate policies and procedures;
  • Negotiate privacy and data considerations in third-party supplier and partner agreements;
  • Manage and deliver the privacy management program’s operational plans;
  • Manage a direct report (paralegal/analyst) responsible for day-to-day privacy program operations;
  • Partner with key internal stakeholders to embed privacy in operations, including IT;
  • Deliver and source engaging staff training to maintain a strong privacy culture;
  • Craft guidance and educational content related to the International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information (ISPPPI) to support the harmonized implementation of the Standard globally;
  • Assist in WADA’s global compliance-monitoring activities as they relate to the ISPPPI;
  • Monitor external stakeholder compliance with the ISPPPI and support activities aimed at building stakeholder capacity;
  • Prepare and maintain internal reports on the privacy office’s activities;
  • Stay up to date on global privacy laws and regulations and assess their impact on the organization;
  • Assist the Director or other Legal staff members, as needed. If required, manage additional direct reports.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS


  • Qualified lawyer, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in privacy and data protection law;
  • Privacy certifications are an asset;
  • Experience navigating international privacy compliance, an asset;
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies and data governance practices, an asset;
  • Strong work ethic, creative thinker, and a self-starter;
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage and influence individuals at all levels of the organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, analyze, summarize, and report on legal documents;
  • Deeply interested in exploring the intersection of privacy, anti-doping, and sport;
  • Excellent oral and written skills in one of the two WADA official languages (English/French) and very good command of the other official language; Additional languages would be an asset;
  • Periodic work in the evening or on weekends;
