We are seeking a dynamic and business-savvy lawyer to join our Employment and Accessibility Law Team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to leverage your employment law background to support TELUS and its various business units, including the People & Culture team, on all aspects of employment law matters. You will primarily focus on providing legal advice and guidance in respect of the non-unionized workforce at TELUS Communications and its subsidiaries, such as TELUS Health, TELUS Agriculture and Consumer Goods, and TELUS Security. This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure to various dynamic and growing industries, both national and internationally.


  • Pease note that this is a 12 month contract position. Depending on performance and organizational need, this position may become a full time permanent role at the end of the 12 month period.**


What we do:


  • Provide legal support and advice on a wide range of employment law matters involving federally and provincially regulated employees
  • Handle wrongful/unjust dismissal claims, severance/reasonable notice issues, human rights issues including accommodation, accessibility matters, employment contracts and policies, short- and long-term disability leaves and benefits, performance management and discipline of employees, internal investigations, employee privacy, wage issues including sales incentives and overtime, employment issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, cross-border and international employment matters, and prevention and pre-litigation matters
  • Collaborate with the People & Culture team and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations
  • Conduct legal research, analyze complex legal issues, and provide clear and practical legal advice
  • Draft and review legal documents, including employment contracts, policies, and other related agreements
  • Stay updated on changes in employment laws and regulations and provide proactive advice to mitigate legal risks
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal clients and external stakeholders


Who we are looking for:


  • 2-6 years of practice post call to the bar, with a focus on employment law
  • Strong knowledge and experience in employment law, gained from working in a law firm or corporation
  • Excellent legal and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate legal advice effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, focus on critical goals, and achieve superior results
  • Quick learner with the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities
  • Proactive and driven to contribute to business objectives
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with sophisticated clients
  • Member of the Alberta, B.C., Ontario, or Quebec bar
