We are looking for a Material Research & Sourcing Associate to join our team. This role is responsible for researching, sourcing, and commercializing fabrics and trims that align with product strategy, design direction, quality expectations, cost objectives, and seasonal calendar milestones. This role partners closely with Design, Merchandising, Product Development, Production, and Quality Assurance teams to identify, evaluate, and implement commercially viable material solutions for seasonal collections.
Some of What You’ll Do:
Material Research & Supplier Strategy
- Research and maintain a global supplier network for fabrics and trims.
- Continuously evaluate market trends, material innovations, sustainability advancements, and supplier capabilities.
- Support mill and supplier strategies to improve lead times and margin opportunities.
- Partner with Production on alternative, vertical and counter-sourcing initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of supplier and factory capabilities.
Material Sourcing & Commercialization
- Source and nominate fabrics and trims for seasonal collections in partnership with Design and Merchandising.
- Present seasonal material options aligned with product vision and performance requirements.
- Evaluate lead times, MOQ/MCQ requirements and supplier readiness.
- Coordinate commercialization activities supporting SMS requirements.
- Maintain communication with suppliers regarding status and approvals.
Color & Material Development Coordination
- Initiate and track fabric and trim lab dips with QA and Design.
- Coordinate color submissions, approvals and corrective comments with QA.
- Verify colors with Design and collaborate with QA to communicate supplier feedback.
- Track material and trim development progress.
- Coordinate SMS readiness and handoff requirements.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, Product Development, Production and QA.
- Provide nominated material details, specifications and readiness dates.
- Support Production and QA teams with required material information.
- Participate in seasonal reviews and risk assessments.
Data Management & Systems
- Maintain accurate material data in PLM systems.
- Create and maintain material specification sheets and master records.
- Support BOM creation through accurate material information.
Some of What You’ll need:
- College diploma or university degree in Textiles, Apparel, Fashion, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Product Development, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in material sourcing, textile sourcing, product development, merchandising support, or related apparel industry roles.
- Strong understanding of apparel fabrics, trims and textile construction.
- Supplier relationship management skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PLM systems.
- Fluent English; French is an asset.
