Job Description:

Allstate Canada Group (ACG) is looking for a Legal Counsel, Privacy and Technology to join its Law & Regulation Department. We are looking for a creative and high energy legal counsel interested in working at the nexus of law, business, technology, data, and consumers. ACG’s Law and Regulation department is growing to enable our service businesses to thrive as well as support matters across the business as to technology, cybersecurity, privacy, data management, and intellectual property.

Successful candidates for this role should have the significant knowledge of Cyber, AI, Privacy, Emerging Technologies, Insurance Products, and Incident Management.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide solutions-oriented strategic legal counseling to enable business units to achieve business objectives in compliance with applicable law and regulations.
  • Provide Privacy and Technology legal counseling to all business areas, with a focus on emerging technologies and new technology products.
  • Complex research as to applicability of pertinent laws, statutes, regulations, rules, and other legal authority; ability to summarize concisely and collaborate with other areas of company to determine impact of new legal authority on business and enable action plans.
  • Support regulatory response and strategy for privacy, security, and data programs and incident response/investigations.
  • Proactive strategic recommendations to enhance compliance with legal/regulatory requirements and use a risk/return framework to help mitigate future risks to ACG.


Skills and attributes for success

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as advocacy
  • Experience in the following areas: privacy, cybersecurity, technology, international, intellectual property, M&A, strategy, commercial, data, and/or highly regulated sectors
  • Demonstrated strategic and data driven mindset.
  • Ability to build relationships across multiple areas of the business.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and navigate competing priorities and agendas successfully.
  • Ability to adapt and integrate own experience with Enterprise-wide strategy
  • Continuous improvement mindset


Qualifications:

  • Law degree from a Canadian law school or equivalent
  • Member of the Ontario Bar in good standing
  • 3 + years of Privacy, Technology and/or relevant Corporate Law experience
  • Experience in a highly regulated environment
  • French language ability preferred, but not required.
