About The Opportunity
The AI Engineer is responsible for designing and building AI solutions that deliver measurable business value to Canada Guaranty. The role combines software engineering, machine learning, generative AI, data engineering, and MLOps practices to develop scalable and secure AI applications.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience developing AI-powered applications and contributing to the lifecycle of AI solutions from experimentation and model selection through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization. While extensive years of AI-specific experience are not required, the candidate must demonstrate practical exposure to production AI environments and a strong understanding of enterprise AI delivery practices.
In This Role, You Will
- Design and develop AI-powered applications using large language models (LLMs), machine learning models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and related AI technologies.
- Develop production-grade AI services, APIs, and integrations using Python and modern software engineering practices.
- Provide technical recommendations to business and technology stakeholders on AI capabilities, limitations, risks, and implementation approaches.
- Collaborate with engineering business teams to identify and deliver high-value AI use cases.
- Evaluate and integrate commercial, open-weight, and proprietary AI models based on business and technical requirements.
- Build and maintain AI workflows involving embeddings, retrieval, model orchestration, tool calling, and structured outputs where appropriate.
- Deploy and operate AI solutions using DevOps and MLOps practices, including CI/CD, versioning, monitoring, and rollback.
- Evaluate and monitor AI solutions for quality, reliability, performance, latency, cost, and business outcomes.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3–7 years of software engineering, machine learning engineering, or AI engineering experience, or a related role.
- Strong software engineering experience with proficiency in Python or an equivalent programming language and experience developing APIs or backend services.
- Hands-on experience developing applications using machine learning models, LLMs, or other AI technologies.
- Understanding of AI/ML development, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and CI/CD practices.
- Ensure AI solutions address organizational data privacy, security, data residency, governance, and responsible AI requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across application, infrastructure, AI model, and integration layers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI-assisted development or agentic coding tools in private or enterprise environments.
- Experience with large language models such as Llama, Mistral, Qwen, DeepSeek, or equivalent open-weight models.
- Experience with model inference platforms such as vLLM, Ollama, llama.cpp, Hugging Face Transformers, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience with agent and workflow orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience with model evaluation, benchmarking, prompt evaluation, groundedness and response-quality assessment, and regression testing for AI applications.
- Familiarity with model quantization and efficient inference techniques, such as GPTQ, AWQ, GGUF-based deployments, or similar approaches.
- Familiarity with model fine-tuning and adaptation techniques, including parameter-efficient approaches such as LoRA or PEFT.

The salary range for this position ranges from $115,000 to $135,000. Offers are determined by a variety of factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, along with internal equity.
