Position Description

As a Commercial HVAC Sales Engineer in the HVAC Product Sales Division, your role focuses on commercial HVAC sales, informed by your robust experience in design and specification within this industry. You will operate out of our client’s BC branch, and your responsibilities include driving sales, providing design support, and promoting their HVAC solutions for commercial usage.


  • Engage with engineers, contractors, and developers, fostering the design of commercial HVAC systems that incorporate our products.
  • Develop lasting, valuable relationships with key industry professionals, persuading them to choose our client’s offerings.
  • Deliver engaging seminars that highlight their products, their application, selection, and design tools, emphasizing the advantages of their systems.
  • Provide engineering support, maintain current accounts, and secure future business opportunities through customer visits, design advice, sales calls, and activities that increase the specification of our client’s products in regional system designs.
  • Increase market knowledge of their products and industry expertise by effectively communicating their features and benefits.
  • Provide the Commercial Business Manager with weekly plans for customer visits, scheduling client meetings and follow-up action plans.
  • Regularly submit business intelligence reports that detail market activity and trends, project pricing, sales pipeline, and the status of projects and quotations in the assigned territory.
  • Regularly provide sales status reports to the Commercial Business Manager, including activities, closings, follow-ups, and goal progress.
  • Increase and maintain sales through professional interactions with current and potential clients.
  • Understand and address customer needs by discussing their requirements and predicting future needs.
  • Share sales or service opportunities and customer feedback or suggestions.
  • Identify and solve client problems, advising on future strategies to avoid such issues.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure the fulfillment of customer project requirements.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to RFQs (requests for quotes) and RFIs (requests for information).
  • Maintain customer communication and contact information records as needed.
  • Participate in trade shows, conferences, and other marketing events.
  • Stay updated with crucial client information, future plans, and payment performance. Report any client information that could influence company decisions to relevant departments.


Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience as a sales engineer in commercial HVAC products, with extensive knowledge of mechanical HVAC system design. VRF technology experience is a plus.
  • Pre-existing connections within the British Columbia HVAC community.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrable expertise in assisting consulting engineers with mechanical HVAC building designs based on equipment supply.
  • Strong business development skills and the ability to give engaging training presentations about sales, product features, benefits, and system design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven track record of negotiation and influence.
  • Preferred membership in APEGBC.
  • Membership in ASHRAE and LEED certification is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • A valid state driver’s license, ownership and use of a reliable car, as the role requires travel to visit current and potential clients. You may also need to travel to the Toronto headquarter for quarterly meetings, training, or product launch events.


Education

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering. P.Eng. designation in BC is desirable.
