ROLE OVERVIEW
Streamline Control is seeking a Leak Detection Advisor to support the delivery of computational pipeline monitoring (CPM) advisory services to oil and gas pipeline clients across western Canada. Working alongside Senior Advisors and Engagement Leads, you will contribute to the assessment, tuning, testing, and monitoring of client leak detection systems — building the technical foundation to independently lead engagements as your experience grows.
This role is suited to a professional with foundational pipeline or OT experience who is ready to develop deep specialisation in CPM leak detection. You will work on meaningful client deliverables from day one, supported by a structured mentorship pathway toward the Senior Advisor level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leak Detection System Assessment
- Support the evaluation of client CPM leak detection systems against CSA Z662 Annex E, API 1130, and API 1149 requirements under senior guidance, identifying gaps and contributing to improvement recommendations.
- Assist with threshold calculation packages — applying API 1149 uncertainty methodology and percentage-of-flow criteria across pipeline segments and time windows under senior review.
- Contribute to false alarm rate analysis and document dynamic trigger configurations (pump start/stop, valve operations, pig launches) and associated threshold parameters.
System Monitoring and Alarm Analysis
- Perform structured alarm investigations — reviewing SCADA trends, pipeline telemetry (flow, pressure, temperature, density), injection/delivery activity, and line pack data — escalating findings to Senior Advisors as appropriate.
- Support weekly deviation monitoring and monthly statistical data reviews; assist with generation of work orders and client recommendations.
- Review instrumentation data quality against CSA Z662 Annex E Table E.1 minimum data retrieval requirements and flag critical instrument gaps affecting LDS accuracy.
Compliance and Documentation
- Support Senior Advisors in preparing client documentation for CER / regulatory audit readiness, including gap analysis, program reviews, and performance metric summaries.
- Review and contribute to client Leak Detection program documentation — strategies, manuals, alarm management procedures, and test records.
- Maintain accurate, well-organised records of assessments, test results, and client correspondence in accordance with Streamline Control quality standards.
Client Engagement
- Participate in client technical meetings, workshops, and site visits alongside Senior Advisors, developing client-facing communication skills.
- Contribute to the preparation of client deliverables — assessment reports, threshold packages, test records, and improvement roadmaps — under senior review.
- Develop an understanding of client pipeline operations, control centre environments, and the regulatory context governing their leak detection programs.
OT and SCADA Systems Support
- Apply working knowledge of SCADA systems and pipeline telemetry to support alarm analysis and system monitoring activities.
- Support integration-related tasks involving OT infrastructure, communications, and data quality in collaboration with Streamline Control's OT team as required.
- Follow established OT cybersecurity procedures and data handling standards at all client sites.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- 1–3 years of experience in oil and gas pipeline operations, SCADA systems, OT infrastructure, instrumentation, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Foundational understanding of pipeline operations, including awareness of SCADA systems, field instrumentation, and control centre environments.
- Familiarity with at least one CPM leak detection method (Compensated Volume Balance, Real Time Transient Modelling, or statistical leak detection) — through coursework, work experience, or self-directed study.
- Basic understanding of Canadian pipeline regulatory requirements (CSA Z662) or willingness to develop this knowledge rapidly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in technical documentation.
- Willingness to travel to client pipeline facilities, pump stations, and control centres across western Canada.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical findings clearly.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior exposure to leak detection systems, pipeline hydraulics, or CPM platforms (e.g., DNV Synergi, Emerson PipelineManager / PLDS, AVEVA Pipeline Integrity Monitor) through work experience, internship, or co-op placement.
- Familiarity with API 1130 (Computational Pipeline Monitoring for Liquids) or API 1149 (Pipeline Variable Uncertainties).
- Degree or diploma in a relevant engineering or technical discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Science, or equivalent).
- Experience working in or closely with a Pipeline Control Centre environment.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Analytical curiosity — approaches pipeline data, alarm events, and system anomalies with systematic thinking and a genuine interest in getting to root cause.
- Clear communicator — able to present technical findings in written reports and client meetings with accuracy and professionalism.
- Eager to develop — motivated to build deep CPM expertise and grow toward independent advisory responsibilities within a structured mentorship framework.
- Collaborative — works effectively with senior advisors, client operations teams, control room staff, and field personnel.
- Detail-oriented — maintains high standards in documentation, threshold calculations, and test records.
- Safety-conscious — understands and respects the safety management systems and permit-to-work requirements of active pipeline facilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Travel to client pipeline control centres, pump stations, and field test sites across western Canada.
- Work at active pipeline facilities requiring adherence to client safety management systems, PPE requirements, and permit-to-work procedures.
- On-call availability may be required to support client testing programs or critical system reviews as responsibilities develop.
- Flexibility during client audit periods, testing campaigns, and project delivery windows.
