About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Cyber Security Consultant (TRA Specialist) to support enterprise-level security initiatives within the Ontario Public Sector. This role focuses on Threat & Risk Assessments (TRA), security architecture, and risk mitigation strategies, ensuring the protection of critical information systems and compliance with government standards.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in risk assessment methodologies, stakeholder communication, and public sector security frameworks, with the ability to translate complex risks into clear, actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct Threat & Risk Assessments (TRA) to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and mitigation strategies
• Analyze internal and external threats impacting enterprise systems and recommend risk reduction approaches
• Define and evaluate security architecture requirements for IT systems and projects
• Implement and review security controls to ensure ongoing effectiveness and compliance
• Facilitate risk assessment workshops with business and technical stakeholders
• Develop detailed risk assessment reports, including residual risk and mitigation strategies
• Ensure compliance with Ontario government security standards, policies, and legislation (e.g., FIPPA)
• Provide input into procurement processes by defining security requirements and evaluating vendor solutions
• Support business continuity planning, disaster recovery, and incident response strategies
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security-by-design principles into solutions
Mandatory Skills & Qualifications
• Strong expertise in Threat & Risk Assessment (TRA) methodologies (HTRA or equivalent)
• Hands-on experience in security architecture, vulnerability analysis, and risk mitigation
• Experience conducting enterprise-level security assessments and producing executive reports
• Knowledge of Ontario Public Sector security standards, policies, and compliance frameworks
• Experience working in public sector / highly regulated environments
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity technologies (encryption, access controls, firewalls, authentication, etc.)
• Experience with industry frameworks (NIST, ISO, ISF) and enterprise architecture practices
• Excellent communication skills to translate technical risks into business-friendly insights
Preferred Skills
• Experience with Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture frameworks
• Knowledge of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR)
• Exposure to penetration testing, intrusion detection, and vulnerability management tools
• Experience in security policy development and training delivery
• Familiarity with public key infrastructure (PKI) and forensic investigation practices
