High Performance at Neo

We recruit, hire, and build our company culture around these attributes:

Teamwork: We trust, respect, encourage, and show up for each other — through good times and hard. We're on this mission not just for ourselves, but also for the people we work with — and ultimately, for our customers.

Ownership: We all have a stake in Neo's success — so we go out of our way to do what needs to get done. We hold ourselves accountable to deliver on our commitments — to our customers, to our partners, and to our team. When we fall short, we find a way to do better in the future.

Professional Integrity: We're asking millions of Canadians to trust us with their hard-earned money — so we hold ourselves (and each other) to the highest standards of integrity.

The Role

We're expanding Neo leadership by adding a VP Information Security to our team in Calgary, AB. Success in this role will be based on your ability to rapidly deliver improvements as a startup leader who isn't afraid to sometimes jump ‘into the weeds' to drive performance, efficiency and results. We're searching for someone humble and entrepreneurial who can succeed in a flat organization; someone with hustle and a scrappy attitude who can balance project management, people management, and hands-on team mentorship with expertise in cyber and information security.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Take ownership over the security of a B2C cloud-based service, bringing proven insights and tactics to ensure an online system accessible by millions globally is secure.
  • Use your expertise in cyber and information security to prioritize, build project roadmaps, define clear success criteria, and create detailed cyber project implementation plans.
  • Build and manage a high-performance team of analysts, testers and engineers through great people management, setting clear expectations, and constantly raising the bar.
  • Provide hands-on mentorship, coaching, feedback, and support to the entire team while working with them, rather than them working under you.
  • Take ownership over costs deadlines; review the teams' actual, day-to-day work to personally hold the team accountable.
  • Apply a startup mindset to achieving big things in an impossibly short amount of time, even with limited resources or while the business is moving at an incredible pace.
  • Shift ownership left rather than centralizing or bottlenecking teams; improving training, awareness, and creating distributed responsibility across teams at Neo.
  • Collaborate with leaders in tech and product (and startup founders); be pragmatic while also justifying cybersecurity initiatives by clearly quantifying value, cost, and risk.
  • Represent the organization in interactions and even negotiations with industry peers, regulators, auditors or any external stakeholders who connect with Neo.

Who We're Looking For

  • Pragmatic tech-team managers with proven track records: both running challenging projects and managing fast paced, high-performance teams.
  • Passionate community-involved leaders who are active beyond their day to day work: authors, bloggers, social-media influencers, and conference or meetup speakers.
  • Experts with deep, practical knowledge of what it takes to secure the world's most scalable, high-profile online systems and software products.
  • Security focused individuals who will focus on security itself. Work with our existing compliance team, but know how to go far beyond adopting frameworks or controls.
  • Leaders with charisma and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively, inspire, mentor, resolve conflict, and lead a diverse team.
  • Startup experience preferred; experience at technology companies or building software- and cloud-based products that emphasize security will be an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Security, or related, or equivalent work experience.
  • Recommend 8+ years of related industry experience and associated certifications (CISSP, AWS Certified Security, etc).
