Within the Data, Privacy and Innovation Division in Technology and Innovation, the Privacy, Policy, and Governance Branch enables government transparency and accountability through enterprise policy and program services for content management, data, technology, privacy, and access to information. The Branch also enhances the strategic capacity of the department and the integration of data, content, technology, and privacy initiatives across the Department. Core to this function is leadership on high-priority Department initiatives. The Branch provides strategic and proactive policy coordination and strategic engagement advice, planning and coordination to support Department priorities and business outcomes.

Technology and Innovation is responsible for the administration of part 2 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP Act). In addition, the Data, Privacy and Innovation division delivers the privacy program for all Government of Alberta departments and some of their agencies, boards, and commissions.
Reporting to the Manager, Privacy Services, you will work as a member of a team delivering protection of privacy services in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, and processes to enable compliance with the FOIP Act.
Responsibilities
Some of this role’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Promoting the protection of privacy under Part 2 of the FOIP Act associated with the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.
- Responsibility for a caseload of moderately complex privacy files.
- Collaborating with and providing direction to client ministry staff and external stakeholders concerning the proper collection, use, disclosure, security, and retention of personal information to comply with the FOIP Act.
- Responding to privacy complaints received from the stakeholders, including participating in investigations, reviewing ministry's legislation and policy pertaining to the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.
- Providing support to program areas related to privacy breaches including determining if a privacy breach has occurred and the level of the breach, liaising with ministry staff to rectify any low and medium level complexity breaches, and making recommendations to prevent breaches in the future.
- Preparing privacy assessments.
- Supporting the development and delivery of training sessions, other resources, and communication materials to promote awareness and understanding of part 2 of the FOIP act.

- Strong relationship building skills to interact with clients at all levels within and outside the Ministry.
Qualifications
Required:
- University graduation in a related field such as Business Administration, Political Science, Public Administration and Law.
- 2 years of progressively responsible related experience working with the Alberta FOIP Act and regulations.
Equivalencies
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets
- Graduation from the Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) certificate program from the University of Alberta or similar.
- Experience in privacy specific roles.
- Experience working with privacy legislation.
- Experience with records management, privacy and security concepts and principles.

Salary
$2,626.89 to $3,448.73/ Bi-Weekly ($68,561 - $90,011/ Annually)

Location: Remote: Must reside in Alberta to work remotely.
