The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking one or more
Senior Software Engineers to become a permanent part of our team, building innovative, new space capabilities of national importance. We support numerous space missions with a focus on satellite ground systems used by mission and satellite operations teams in various capacities.
Required Qualifications:- Bachelor’s or graduate-level degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
- 7+ years professional experience in software development, with pay based on experience level
- Strong experience in object-oriented software design patterns and principles
- Demonstrable experience with common software development best practices, including:
- Agile/Scrum or similar methodologies
- Version control and continuous integration
- Testing strategies and code testability
- Cross-platform implementations (Linux and Windows)
- Good communication, organization, and planning skills
- Good analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team
- US citizenship required, along with the ability to obtain and hold a U.S. Government security clearance
- Some occasional travel may be required
Desired Qualifications:
We realize even the best qualified candidates will not have all of these qualifications, but any of these would be very beneficial:
- Strong experience in C#.NET
- Experience with web technologies (Angular, React, Javascript/Typescript, HTML, CSS, REST, WebSocket, etc.)
- Experience with or ability to learn new programming languages, scripting, and development environments as needs arise – Python, C++, Java, SQL, Bash, PowerShell, and others may show up on a situational basis
- Experience with containerization and deployment (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong understanding of messaging frameworks and communications protocols
- Experience with cloud technologies and deployment (AWS, AWS GovCloud, Azure, etc.)
- Experience designing modular software and communicating/refining designs independently or with a team through whiteboarding, diagrams, UML, etc.
- Understanding of cybersecurity threats and mitigation techniques
- Experience with design, implementation, and usage of relational and/or non-relational databases
- Experience with Atlassian management tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)
- Ability to provide mentoring, leadership, and experience sharing with junior engineers
- Ability and desire to lead development teams
- Experience with satellite ground or flight systems
- Personal interest in space, space exploration, and space technologies
- Active Top Secret security clearance
