Skills for Hire Atlantic Teaching Assistant - Cybersecurity
We are currently seeking a qualified teaching assistant to join our Skills for Hire Atlantic team for our 20-week Cybersecurity program. Skills For Hire Atlantic is a digital skills and career-building training program designed to help fill the need for qualified entry-level talent in the tech sector across the Atlantic Provinces.
In this position, you will support participants online by working directly with individuals and study groups as they progress through the course content. Strong interpersonal communication skills and a patient, positive attitude are a must as well as a comprehensive understanding of Cybersecurity.
Teaching Assistant Duties and Responsibilities

Host 1-2 online live sessions (1 hour-long each) per week on content and/or activities related to the weekly content according to the course schedule.

Support participants via the Slack channel by engaging with, and answering participant's in a timely manner. This will occur during days and times your participants require support outside of your regular weekly live sessions (2-3 hours a week).

Schedule and share valuable tips, resources, upcoming events, and networking opportunities on the Slack channel (2-4 posts/week).

Provide students with additional resources and/or activities related to the weekly content according to the course schedule, if requested.

Lead in the development, maintenance and scoring of 2-3 hands-on assignments (i.e. projects, case studies, etc.) and provide feedback on projects after completion. Teaching Assistant Requirements and Qualifications
Technical Qualifications:

Degree or pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or demonstrated work experience and deep understanding of the cybersecurity specialization.

Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, best practices, and key terms.

A solid understanding of the following technical competencies:

Network Security - Understanding network vulnerabilities, threats, and security controls, network security protocols and methods, and encryption technologies.

System Security - Understanding operating systems, security policies, authentication methods, and access control methods.

Cloud Security - Knowledge of cloud security principles, practices, and technologies, including cloud risk assessment and management, and virtualization.

Penetration Testing - Understanding and practical knowledge of penetration testing, ethical hacking, and vulnerability assessment techniques.
Other Required Skills:

Experience facilitating meetings (screen sharing etc.) via Zoom, Slack, and/or Google Meet.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Experience working with online self-directed learning is an asset.

Experience using the Pluralsight platform is a definite asset.

Bilingualism (French/English) is a definite asset.
Timing
-
Live teaching sessions for the Cybersecurity participants will take place for 1-2 hours in the evenings each week.

The support of participants will occur during times they may require the most attention outside of regularly scheduled live teaching sessions. This could take place during the day, in the evening, or on weekends. Office Hours, if required, to best support participants can be arranged.

The estimated time commitment is approximately 6 hours per week.
Remuneration
The position will be compensated at a rate of $45/hour for 23 weeks (June 26th - December 3rd, 2023). Total remuneration for this work is $6,210 CAD.
Please note that there is a possibility for this position to be renewed for a successive term should the successful candidate be the right fit.
