Purpose of Position
The Pembina Trails School Division’s Learning and Information Technologies department oversees all technology throughout its 36 schools and admin offices.
Working with schools and technology staff, Network Managers ensure the optimal operation of networks and centralized IT services. This includes but is not limited to local and wide area networks, storage, backups, Internet and Intranet, file and print, e-mail, applications, telecommunications, cloud technologies and security.
The Network Manager, focused on Data Centre Administration, is responsible for the operation, reliability, security, and lifecycle management of the Division’s data centers and core infrastructure. This includes virtualization platforms (VMware & Hyper-V), backup and disaster recovery systems (Veeam), SAN storage and Fiber Channel switching, and core server services.
Key Responsibilities
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
- Manage day-to-day operations of primary and DR data centers.
- Administer and optimize VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V environments.
- Manage Veeam backup, replication, verification testing, and disaster recovery planning.
- Administer and maintain SAN storage platforms and Fiber Channel switches.
- Maintain monitoring and alerting tools to ensure high availability and performance.
- Assist in administration of Windows & Linux Server environments.
- Perform capacity planning, lifecycle management, and vendor coordination.
- Work With External Security services in compliance with security audit and updates deployment.
- Monitor and test network performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Mentors’ other members of the IT team.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.
Skills And Qualifications
Skill and Knowledge – Required:
- Post-secondary education in Information Technology or another related field and five years’ experience with Data Centre Administration in a dynamic work environment across multiple locations, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- Expertise with VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V
- Strong working experience with Veeam Backup & Replication.
- Hands-on SAN storage and Fiber Channel switching experience.
- Proficiency with Windows 11, Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, network protocols, and standards, including servers, switches, firewalls, storage area networks, SIP, etc.
- Working experience with Monitoring tools, Event management, Change Management, Incident Management aligned with ITIL standard practice
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity practices.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Customer Service Orientated.
Skill And Knowledge – Desired
- Experience working in K-12 education.
- Experience with project management and automation.
- IT-specific certifications such as ITIL, CompTIA Net, VMware VCP, Microsoft, Veeam VMCE, or Security+ certifications.
