Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Network and Security Engineer will be responsible for the planning, design, implementation, monitoring, security, administration and maintenance of the IT and OT networks and related technologies. In addition to the core business infrastructure, the Network and Security Engineer will also work closely with affiliate organizations to provide support: Including providing technical support, customer service, and assisting with customer onboarding.
What you should expect:
- Provide engineering oversight of network architecture, planning, design, reliability, security, performance, equipment specification, expansion, maintenance, repair, upgrade and renewal
- Act as a project manager for major and complex projects; define detailed scopes of work; prepare estimates, track budgets, manage timelines, change orders, work quality and deliverables; keep detailed project records
- Establish, evaluate and manage vendor relationships, service contracts and warranties
- Represent the organization as an engineering subject matter expert and technical authority
- Assess networking and security needs of new and existing sites across the GTA, and recommend and implement architecture designs based on business needs.
Network
- Develop comprehensive and secure network architecture, expansion, renewal and upgrade plans; proactively address equipment obsolescence, modernization, redundancy and capacity requirements
- Research, specify and approve equipment; ensure required functionality, system integration, interoperability, scalability and standards compliance
- Oversee quality control & assurance; inspect and approve installations and constructed plant
- Maintain manual and automated monitoring and reporting for all aspects of the network.
- Recommend and implement changes for continuous improvements to the network.
Cybersecurity
- Research, develop, recommend, implement, administer and maintain software, services, policies, appliances and other cyber-security-related controls.
- Act as the lead and point of contact for all cyber-security-related issues, including Security Operations Center services and third-party network monitoring.
- Monitor network access and security; ensure implementation and adherence to cyber security policies, frameworks and industry best practice
- Identify and report deficiencies, security concerns; assess, recommend, prioritize and implement corrective actions
- Maintain manual and automated monitoring and reporting for all aspects of the network.
- Act as lead in cyber security response
What you should bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering OR a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, or ability to obtain within 12 months
- RCDD, OSP and PMP designations are considered an asset
- Minimum 5 years ICT engineering experience, preferably with an ISP
- Able to clearly communicate physical and logical network architecture using Visio or similar software.
- In-depth knowledge of telecom networks and infrastructure; proficient in network planning and design; solid understanding of network switching & routing; experience preparing engineering studies, specifications and managing projects
- Experience with Fortinet and RuggedCom
- Ability to script, program and automate
- Strong leadership aptitude; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to listen to and motivate others
- Self-starter; highly motivated and able to work independently; asks for help when required
- Ability to write clear and concise technical reports, deliver effective presentations, and answer questions with definitive professional authority
- Analytical with excellent reasoning & decision-making skills; ability to conduct research to support decisions and recommendations
- Organizational savvy and political acuity; ability to recognize and deal with sensitive issues in a discreet and professional manner
- Flexible work schedule; able and willing to work after hours on occasion to meet customer requirements or respond to major network issues
- Valid Class G Driver's License in good standing
