About The Role
TransAlta is looking for a
Network Specialist to join our team on a
full-time basis. This role is based out of our Head Office in Downtown
Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule and reports to the Technical Lead, Network and Telecom.
This role is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of TransAlta Corporation's IT network infrastructure, including both Enterprise and OT Data Network & Telecommunications infrastructure. Network Specialists evaluate the effectiveness of information systems based on their intended outcomes and collaborate with end users, software vendors, and programmers to achieve these goals. In this you will act as a change agent, identifying necessary organizational improvements, designing systems to facilitate these changes, and training and motivating others to utilize the systems.
What You Will Do
- Support the management of Enterprise and Operational Technology (OT) networks, and support in the resolution of any escalated IT and OT related issues
- Oversee the management of network and telecom changes
- Implement new technologies, and manage implementation of network hardware and software
- Maintain and optimize network system architecture standards to deliver cost effective solutions and improvements which in turn deliver tangible business benefits
- Drive innovation, aligning to the overall strategy of the IT teams, to improve the overall operations and effectiveness of TransAlta
- Work with business analysts, project managers, and business units to ensure that project requirements are well understood, documented, and approved by all stakeholders
- Serve as an escalation point for major issues related to IT network services, ensuring prompt resolution
What We Need From You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following essential qualifications and experience:
- University Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science focusing on networking and / or related specialty, or completion of the 2-year diploma program with specialization in Network Engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 - 7 years of experience in Networks as a Network Analyst / engineer or specialist professional designation preferred.
- Cisco network certification or Palo Alto Firewall certification is desired
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of networking protocols, hardware, and software, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve network issues effectively.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to new technologies and processes.
Strong Technical Skills In The Following Areas
- In depth knowledge of IP V4 protocol stack specifically Routing, VoIP, and Security protocols
- Cisco IOS and CLI configuration and management of switches, routers, and ASA
- Palo Alto or other next generation Firewall configuration and management
- SNMP based network monitoring / management system
- Wired and wireless networks and standards
- Experience with Microsoft Azure or other 3rd party cloud service. Providing management and configuration of network cloud computing infrastructure
- Meraki or other controller-based wireless network management system
- VoIP experience, SIP, QOS, DSCP tagging
- IT Security incident support.
- OT networking based on Purdue and NIST Cybersecurity framework.
- Acute awareness of NERC CIP compliance
- Wireshark or other protocol analyzer
- Have a valid Alberta Drivers license.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
