IO’s Transaction Services and Corporate Legal Enterprise Team provides professional support to all parts of the agency. Lawyers within the team specialize in services that support infrastructure and commercial projects, construction, real estate and leasing, lending, privacy protection, government affairs, litigation, and contract management.
As part of Infrastructure Ontario’s Corporate Legal team, you will have an opportunity to play a prominent role in Ontario’s infrastructure lending program, which has supported more than $18B in local infrastructure development, and support other corporate functions for the organization. In this role you will report to the Vice President, Corporate Legal & Commercial Projects.
What You will Do
- Provide high-quality and commercially-minded legal advice and service to lending program, as well as senior management
- Be accountable for a team of legal professionals (lawyers and clerks) in their carriage of files and issue management, and responsible for managing the team’s performance by leading the approach to structuring and implementing lending transactions and procurements. This will often require innovative thinking to develop and negotiate agreements reflecting the needs of a given transaction.
- Give direction to Corporate Legal team members and support their development through coaching, training and mentoring
- Support the Vice President, Corporate Legal on corporate-wide initiatives and other general corporate/procurement matters
- Draft, review, analyze and negotiate complex agreements, opinions, memoranda, and procurement documents to manage risk and ensure that the government’s objectives are achieved
- Ensure compliance with Infrastructure Ontario’s governance requirements
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with client partners, external legal partners, ministry partners and other stakeholders
- Oversee and direct external counsel; interpret and disseminate legal advice and recommendations to senior lawyers and senior management
- Educate legal team and internal clients on legal matters through discussions and presentations
- Assume other legal and management duties as assigned
Who We're Looking For
- We are seeking a person with experience practicing law in the area(s) of secured lending/financing and exposure to corporate law
- The candidate must have a university degree in law (LLB or JD) and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- The ideal candidate will have the following skills and personal attributes:
- Proven management and leadership skills and abilities
- Excellent ability to understand business issues quickly, think strategically, understand the business implications of proposed legal solutions and exercise good judgment in providing timely and practical legal advice
- Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills, including the ability to communicate complex legal issues in a way that can be understood by both lawyers and non-legal clients
- Demonstrated ability to identify areas of change and initiate, drive and see through to completion such change
- Consistently demonstrates reliability, a commitment to a high level of quality and care in their work, decisiveness, self-confidence, self-control and self-awareness
- The ability to thrive in a fast paced, highly pressured, multi-task environment with changing priorities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a large team-based environment of a growing organization

The salary range for this position is $127,805 to $191,405 with a corresponding job level of L3.
