We are adding this new position to our team. As the Network Technician, you will be responsible for interacting with internal and external clients, and vendors of Rhyzome Networks to ensure our networks, servers and end point devices are operational, optimized, and secure. While this role is responsible for overseeing key points of infrastructure, we are a small team and require a wide variety of both operational and project support. In day-to-day support you will be responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of fibre networks, wireless networks, switched networks, and other network infrastructure for all tiers of service.
This is a full-time position reporting to the IT Manager and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Tier 1 and 2 support for multiple user groups, including ISP customers
- Implementing, managing, and maintaining all aspects of the IT infrastructure
- Daily operations of the NOC (software, hardware and systems)
- Trouble shooting network, infrastructure and end user support issues
- Monitoring and troubleshooting significant network events
- Software and Hardware Inventory Management using multiple tools
- Designing and implementing improvement plans for our IT infrastructure including wireless MAN
- Administering Desktop, Server, LAN/WAN security, antivirus, email security measures
- Disaster recovery planning and testing
- Creating system & network administration guides and training manuals
- Involvement with all aspects of cyber security including implementing improvements along with ongoing monitoring and detection
- Work with other IT personnel, vendors, and users to plan, coordinate, and implement system maintenance and security measures.
- Out of hours support for Rhyzome customers and FHI employees will be required as a function of this role. This will require being on call on a rotational basis.
- Perform other IT tasks as assigned, to include other departmental requests and special projects.
Required Technical Skills/Professional Abilities:
- Post-secondary education in the field of IT (Computer programming, Computer systems Technician, Computer Science, IT Infrastructure).
- 1-2 minimum experience in a related role, Co-op experience will be considered
- Firewall and switch config (comfort level with complicated networks)
- Understanding of controller based wireless networks and how to properly setup/tune them
- Experience with administration of software platforms (Linux/Windows/Embedded and proprietary systems)
- Familiarity with layered traffic (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN tunnels, OSI network model)
- Strong security knowledge (certification or demonstrated)
- Virtualization technologies (Xen/KVM/VMWare/Hyper-V) including clustered storage and migration
- Demonstrated advanced problem solving and issue resolution skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment with many competing priorities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and listening)
- Ability to communicate in technical and non-technical terms
- Demonstrated ability to deliver plans
