Our Edmonton-based client is seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist to take ownership of security operations, policies, and compliance efforts. Reporting to the Supervisor of Network and Security Operations, you will be the sole security resource, working alongside two network analysts and two systems analysts to enhance the organization’s cybersecurity posture.
This is a hands-on role involving policy development, security monitoring, training initiatives, and Microsoft 365 security management.
Key Responsibilities
- Launch and manage the cybersecurity training program.
- Conduct internal phishing simulation campaigns.
- Review and recommend LMS video content (no content creation required).
- Draft and distribute the monthly cybersecurity newsletter.
- Develop and maintain IT security policies - Travel policy for IT equipment and Change management policy.
- Ensure compliance with Microsoft 365 security standards.
- Monitor security logs, analyze incidents, and implement necessary configuration changes.
- Provide security recommendations to leadership.
- Work with Microsoft Defender 365 Security Dashboard to track and mitigate threats.
- Manage Windows security policies using Group Policy (GPO) and CIS security benchmarks.
- While no SIEM is currently in place, experience with SIEM is a plus.
- Handle policy creation, deployment, and documentation.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience with Microsoft security tools, including Defender 365 and Group Policy.
- Strong understanding of Windows security frameworks (CIS benchmarks).
- Ability to analyze security logs and recommend configuration changes.
- Hands-on experience in policy writing and deployment.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, compliance, and risk management.
- Experience with LMS platforms and security training programs is a plus.
- Familiarity with SIEM solutions is an asset but not required.
