What to expect

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, the Security Engineer will be ensuring the security, compliance, and integrity of Verto’s core services. As a Security Engineer, you will maintain Verto’s information security program and work with site reliability engineers, full stack developers, and IT security professionals to deliver highly secure and reliable cloud services. You will develop, plan, and implement system maintenance and compliance plans, as well as consulting with application development teams in an agile manner to provide security insights.

Responsibilities

Information Security Program Planning and Strategy
- Participate in the planning and design of Verto’s security architecture, standards, policies and controls
- Maintain current knowledge of the cybersecurity trends and evaluate threats against the organization controls as part of cyber threat intelligence

Security Engineering and Deployment
- Develop and execute automated remediation activities for continuous hardening of images and systems to adhere to best practices
- Build automated Security-as-Code (SaC) response capabilities to support the detection, investigation and remediation process
- Champion Verto’s security controls library, and support client security requirements and assessments
- Application security consultation and penetration testing is an asset

Operational Management
- Manage, maintain, and recommend security solutions and processes to improve the overall security posture
- Establish and maintain baselines for the security configuration and operations of all Verto assets (i.e. cloud infrastructure, network, servers, workstations, application dependency and libraries etc.)
- Help monitor third party service providers compliance to security standards
- Monitor reported information security events on a daily basis, and ensure critical events are immediately escalated and remediated
- Drive security incident response and escalations

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
Knowledge of OWASP, SAST & DAST, Cloud and Container security are huge assets
Familiarity with networking and enterprise architecture are strong benefits
An understanding or exposure to Cloud Controls Matrix (CCM) by Cloud Security Alliance, ISO27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, HIPPA/PHIPA, or government security requirements.
Experience managing or delivering security programs in highly regulated sectors (healthcare, banking, government, etc)
Experience overseeing or conducting penetration tests or security scans are nice to have
Familiarity with cloud architectures, cloud security and containerization would be an asset

Relevant skills

Collaborative in nature with strong interpersonal skills, focused on building relationships, and working in a collaborative environment with diverse cross-functional teams
Responsive to the needs and demands of your internal and external clients and can pivot and prioritize with ease
Motivated by a fast-paced environment and can rise to the challenges of continuous change
Ability to self-identify threats and act to preemptively stop them
