About The Position

At Vermont Gas Systems (VGS) the Cyber Security Engineer plays an integral role in maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting security infrastructure at Vermont Gas. This person will identify, remediate or mitigate cyber security vulnerabilities, risks, and gaps in existing infrastructure, with guidance from the IT Director and information gathered from monitoring tools, audits industry best practices and partners. This person will also coordinate with 3 rd party vendors, consultants, internal audit and council to report on our security posture.

WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION?

Is a subject matter expert to provide direction for the organization’s cybersecurity efforts
Works with the IT Director and other members of the VGS IT Team to develop and implement security strategies, policies, procedures, and guidelines
Ensures cyber security policies, procedures and protocols are being followed within VGS
Conducts and manages security audits on a periodic basis
Together with the Director of Technology communicates VGS security posture to relevant parties
Works with the corporate SOC (Security Operations Center) to continuously improve security monitoring and incident management to ensure alignment with VGS business context
Monitors current and emerging information privacy and security issues which may affect the organization
Leads cyber security investigations and recommends courses of action and remediation
Conducts security awareness training programs for all VGS personnel and contractors
Continually assesses current and emerging cyber security threats and vulnerabilities.
Works to resolve any gaps and lapses found through both internal and third party assessments with guidance from partners and the VGS IT Team
Submits various reports such as KPI (key performance indicators), audit findings, and other related metrics to requesting parties
Works closely with the other IT groups to test projects, goals, and support disaster recovery for security posture
Assists other members of the IT group with system and network administration as needed
Other duties as may be required or requested.

Understanding of mixed operating system environments, network, and physical security
Ability to distill technical concepts into more digestible information for a wide range of audiences
Competency and or knowledge of the following: group policy, active directory, switching, routing, firewalls, networking, Wi-Fi, cell, SCADA, VOIP, VPN, MDM, virtual machines, endpoint AV and firewalls, WAN, SAN, MFA, office 365, Azure, IAM, backups, patching, threat mgmt., OT network structure and concepts
Knowledge of threats facing information systems as a whole; specifics facing the natural gas industry is a plus.
Ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Certifications such as GIAC, CISSP, GCIH, GPEN, or other security related education or training
Awareness of cybersecurity trends and hacking/exploitation techniques
Degree in Networking and Information Security or similar field, or comparable work experience

Frequent work on computers.
Ability to handle stressful situations calmly with maturity and professionalism.
