Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, this position is responsible for implementing strategic, integrated communication strategy, plans and community engagement initiatives that advance the Municipality’s brand.

How you contribute to our organization:

Oversees, recommends, implements and evaluates communications plans and projects by identifying emerging issues, monitoring the online communications landscape (social, media, web) and providing strategic communications recommendations.
Prepares reports, makes recommendations and presentations and attends Council/Committee, corporate events and/or other meetings, as required.
Working with the appropriate departments, determines media requirements for advertising campaigns. Using a strategic approach, determines the budget, plans the frequency and placement of advertising and arranges purchasing of all corporate advertising.
Lead the development/implementation of aspects of the Corporation’s communications and marketing strategy and communications projects which include photography, videography, graphic design, website, print, advertising, and social media
Oversees the Town’s corporate social media accounts, including developing, implementing, monitoring social media messages and multi-media content and analyzes social media strategies.
Performs media relation duties, including media crisis management and issues communications, developing media materials, speaking notes and key messages as requested.
Research and develop communications including themes and key messages for a wide variety of mediums and audiences such as presentations, social media, web, advertising, surveys, marketing/brochures, and various internal documentation
Regularly participates in professional development activities to keep abreast of trends and possible cooperative programs.Reviews literature, and otherwise keeps current of industry and communication trends.
Performs other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the team:

Requires a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or a related field
4-5 years of progressive and pertinent work experience.
Requires demonstrated, successful experience with public and media relations.
Requires excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage strategic communications issues in a demanding environment. Position requires a results-oriented self-starter with excellent project and time management, project management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure with short deadlines.
Requires good knowledge of applicable legislation, standard practices, and guidelines such as Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation, Canadian Press Style guidelines, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act requirements and guidelines for creating compliant communication products for the we, etc.
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience using relevant graphic design software applications (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), website content moderation systems and social media. Experience in video production/editing and Premiere Pro required.
Requires a sound understanding of the business of municipal government, including the municipal relationship with upper tier municipalities, the province, and the federal government.
Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively and tactfully with a broad range of staff, elected officials, external agencies, the media, general public and other levels of government.
Demonstrates excellent judgment and initiative with a proven track record in issues management and executing successful public information campaigns.
Strong strategic communication skills and knowledge of political environments and internal/external communications/marketing requirements.
Proven ability to apply a high degree of mature judgment, initiative, and discretion in dealing with politically sensitive matters.
Advanced proficiency in all aspects of social media
Strong communication, negotiation, networking, and interpersonal skills
Thorough working knowledge of computer programs used in communications, research and the monitoring of current events and issues.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage projects.
Knowledge of the local area and community leaders is an asset.

Salary: $74,783.80 - $94,949.40, plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan

Hours: 35 hours per week; 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday

Location: Administration Centre, 24 Tupper W, Alliston, ON

Start Date: October 1st, 2024
