Tasso is a fast-growing Seattle-based startup focused on delivering at-home diagnostic testing to those who need it most. We are growing our footprint with leading health systems, clinical research organizations, academic medical centers, and more who are looking to deliver clinical-grade, convenient diagnostic tests to their patients. Tasso was originally founded to find a better way to collect blood instead of a painful fingerstick or time-consuming venous draw. Since then, our products have been used in pharmaceutical clinical trials, by Olympians as part of a new virtual anti-doping program, and broadly by hospital systems across the US.

We are looking for a Senior Security Engineer that will help build systems to support shipment, use, and result gathering from Tasso’s blood collection devices. An ideal candidate will have significant prior experience writing high-quality distributed systems software. You will report to the Director of Software Engineering.

What You Will Do

As part of the Tasso engineering team, you will be responsible for building, securing, and operating software to support Tasso’s mission of getting blood tests to those who need it most. The software you own will interface with labs, patients, and clients to scale our business and advance the state of personalized healthcare and clinical research.

Work with Tasso team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology, and evaluate technical feasibility
Write high-quality, secure distributed systems software
Build and operate security tooling for Tasso’s customer-facing and back-end software systems
Work with Tasso’s clients and customers to collect security requirements and improve internal controls
Work with and audit Tasso’s partners to ensure a strong security posture beyond our system’s borders
Advocate for and lead the implementation of secure development best practices
Lead risk assessment and threat model creation, review, and remediation for technical initiatives
Mentor software engineering team members on security topics
Work with team members to design secure, scalable systems that meet or exceed healthcare and governmental security and privacy requirements (e.g., HIPAA, NIST, CMMC)
Perform secure code reviews and testing activities to move high-quality code from development to production environments
Ensure system security and uptime goals are met through automated testing and monitoring
Lead and participate in the organization’s security operations, including on-call activities

Who You Are

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
6+ years of non-internship experience developing software services with a deep understanding of design for security, availability, and durability
Deep understanding of security principles, techniques, and protocols at all layers of the OSI model
Hands-on experience mapping information security controls to technical implementations
A passion for introducing security controls and testing into CI/CD practices to ensure a high-security bar with every change
Demonstrated ability to use common tools (e.g., OpenSSL, Wireshark, BurpSuite) to prove the correctness of security controls
Experience with a mix of modern programming languages (e.g., Typescript, Go, Rust), open-source technologies (e.g., Linux, Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and explain technical designs
Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the software development life cycle, including secure coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous integration and deployments, testing and operations
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior software engineers in security and engineering skill sets
