About the Role

You are a risk professional comfortable with information technology able to assess an organization’s information security posture against reputable standards and recommend risk-based priorities for improvement.

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, the Security Compliance Specialist will be accountable for running, building out and maturing the company’s security compliance & governance practices including policy updates, risk management, compliance, vendor security assessment and responses to client RFP & audit questionnaires.

The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative and leadership in taking necessary actions in accordance with corporate policy, business requirements and industry best practice guidance to execute on our security compliance program, working with peer groups internally like Technology, Legal or Compliance to achieve sustainable and collaborative outcomes.

Deep technical knowledge is not required but basic familiarity with the various security tools and concepts is. You don’t need to know how to encrypt a database but should know why we’d pick AES over 3DES or when and why you want a

WAF, IDS or SIEM and whether NIST, PCI or ISO says you need one. Beyond the acronym soup these tools exist to solve real world risk problems, and you need to know enough to appreciate the role of various security controls, both technical and administrative in safeguarding data and systems.

Responsibilities

Client audit & RFP responses
Client issue tracking, escalation, and resolution
Internal risk assessment and exception tracking
Security policy development & updates
Vendor risk assessment, issue tracking and escalation

Support internal and external audit process for relevant compliance concerns including PCI-DSS, SSAE16

(SOC2) & ALTA

Thought leadership & program proposal for maturing & improving the security program.
Maintenance & creation of procedural documentation & draft input to relevant security Policy
Metrics, dashboards and reporting for use in the CISO’s reporting to Executive Leadership and the Board of

Directors

Devise and distribute security awareness communications to internal staff and contract real estate professionals.
Occasional travel within North America may be required; typically 1-2 times a year.

Skills and Expertise

Bachelor’s Degree or relevant college diploma
Minimum 3 years experience in information security roles
A certification such as CISSP, CRISC, CISA or CGRC is desired but may be waived upon demonstrable equivalent expertise and experience.
Strong skills in relationship management and working in a team environment.
Able to work independently with minimum supervision, engage colleagues and build relationships in a largely remote work environment.
Familiarity with ISMS and security frameworks, particularly NIST-CSF and PCI
Excellent communication & writing skills – clear, concise, correct & compelling.
Familiarity or experience with real estate topics like appraisal, notarization, wire transfers, recording, title search and closing a plus.
