The role

Shaw Communications is currently seeking a Security Operations Center Analyst position to join our Enterprise Security team in Calgary. Reporting to the Team Lead, Security Operations Center, the Analyst will be responsible for security operations work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The SOCA’s job is to protect Shaw’s informational and physical assets by monitoring the network, reviewing logs, alerts and alarms to detect potential cybersecurity, and physical security events. Additionally, the SOCA analyst will serve as an integral part of the Shaw’s Security Operations team, helping to manage the incident escalation process and aiding with Security investigations. This Calgary based Security Ops Center Analyst will be accountable for the monitoring and response of cyber threats targeting all Shaw companies. Analysts work on a 10 hour shift rotation of four on and four off in a 24 hour facility.

A typical day

Review internal logs and alerts to determine detect potential cybersecurity and physical events.
Triage cases based on output from automated alerts, alarms and determine when to escalate to Tier 2/3 resources
Assist with investigations by consolidating logs across multiple internal/external environments and performing correlation analysis
Identify and block known bad signatures or behavior of attacks
Review log coverage and determine whether appropriate logs are maintained and available to support incident detection and response efforts
Work with Content team developing and refining correlation rules.
Evaluate potential security products, technical solutions, and capacity requirements to meet business needs and recommend changes to mitigate risk
Maintain knowledge of industry trends and current security practices
Serve as an escalation resource and collaborator with other analysts
Assist in defining and driving strategic initiatives.
Create and/or update security operations processes and procedures.
Research, consultation with colleagues and training to maintain awareness of trends in new security threats, technologies and regulations.
Be part of a 24/7 team rotation.

Your Skills/experience

Minimum of 2 years working directly as an Operations Incident or Cybersecurity Analyst.
Certifications in one or more of the following would be an asset: CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), Sans GIAC certifications in one of the following areas: Cyber Defense, Penetration testing, Incident Response and Forensics, CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker Certification).
Strong background in Email and Endpoint threat response
Experience identifying, analyzing, containing, and eradicating cybersecurity threats
Emergency response and incident management experience, preferably within IT incident and Facility security.
Familiarity with security systems and devices
In-depth hands-on experience analyzing and responding to security events and incidents
Knowledge of cybersecurity attack methodology to include tactics and techniques, and associated countermeasures
Demonstrated ability for analytical thinking and research
Team player with ability to work autonomously
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Understanding of Information Security processes and principles
Experience with three (3) or more of the following: o Windows and Linux operating systems o System log analysis o Enterprise Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system(s) o Intrusion Detection or Prevention systems o Malware analysis and response o Scripting skills o Open Source Tools
