About The Role

The Data Protection Officer will ensure that our data and our partners’ data is fully protected and that our work complies with applicable data protection legislation.

We’re seeking a Data Protection Officer to help us improve our management of potentially sensitive information, carry out regular internal security audits, and act as the main point of contact between PartnerHero and data protection authorities. Our ideal team member will have excellent organizational, communication, and management skills, and also the ability to lead training sessions and workshops with members of staff.

The Data Protection Officer will work independently in this role, and also jointly with PartnerHero’s senior leadership team, IT department, and other departments to establish data protection strategies and ensure the day-to-day success of the program. This role will report to the VP, Information Systems and Security.

What You’ll Do

Serve as the primary point of contact for PartnerHero associates, partners, and regulatory bodies on issues related to data protection.
Ensure PartnerHero’s policies and practices remain compliant with current and emerging regulations, such as GDPR, CPPA/CPRA, POPIA, HIPAA and others.
Develop training plans and provide data protection advice and support for PartnerHero associates and partner programs.
Collaborate with legal advisers on the development and review of Data Protection Agreements with partners and vendors.
Promote a culture of data protection compliance across the company.
Develop internal and external communications (videos, blogs, handouts) to showcase the PartnerHero security and compliance programs.
Collaborate with other members of the PartnerHero IT and Security team in maintaining the existing information security management system (ISMS), maintaining certifications and driving continuous improvement against standard frameworks and regulations such as ISO 27k, NIST-800, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR and others.
Represent data protection and privacy for the company, both internally and to external partners, and help to educate and guide other department leaders and associates in good data protection practices worldwide.
Perform regular internal risk and security assessments and proposing solutions and practices designed to mitigate risk and meet best-practices requirements.

What you bring to the table

5 to 10 years experience working in data protection compliance or a related field.
Expertise in applicable data protection laws and practices including an in-depth understanding of the GDPR, CCPA/CCRA and the like.
Strong technical background on information security/data protection/data privacy and knowledge of the relevant principles, techniques, trends, best practices, and standards.
Familiarity with information security standards and regulations such as SSAE16 (SOC1, SOC2, SOC3), ISO 2700X, NIST, HIPAA, PCI-DSS.
Familiarity with risk management and security assessment/audit activities.
Knowledge of threat modeling, OWASP, and Secure SDLC processes.
Ability to communicate complex data protection and security topics to a wide range of stakeholders including executive and senior management teams, recommend strategies and solutions, and put them into practice.
Great interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
