About The Role

The Director, IT Security and Governance is responsible for overseeing the implementation of technology and governance frameworks in adherence to industry standards and practices to ensure the safeguarding of OPTrust against technical and cyber risk. This position leads the Information Security and Technology Risk and Control teams.

What You’ll Do

Works with other departments, project teams and external partners in planning and implementing information technology solutions and governance practices in adherence with industry standard frameworks applicable to the OPTrust environment to ensure the IT strategic direction is aligned with the business direction.
Implements appropriate incident response methodologies that support and enhance technical disaster recovery and business continuity.
Oversees the effectiveness of IT change management, IT audits, (internal and external), risk management activities and operational controls with the objective of discovering, recording and establishing remediations for improvement.
Develops and implements enterprise policies, procedures and standards to mitigate operational risk related to technology.
Provides expertise in areas of computer forensic services, vulnerability management & reporting and managed security services.
Collaborating with the IT leadership team to determine the priorities for secure, auditable technology delivery and for developing and maintaining plans and budgets for Security projects, enhancements and ongoing operations.
Supports the effective and secure operations of the OPTrust infrastructure, end user applications and services for on-premise, managed services and MS Azure services.
Effectively manages both vendor and internal relationships including audit firms, industry regulators and peers.
Leads and participates in establishing and augmenting OPTrust Technical Security, IT governance and Privacy practices and standards and is required to be an advocate of these guidelines and policies throughout the organization.
Directs the development and implementation of short term and strategic security solutions.
Establishes and ensures the development, implementation and oversight of end user operating processes and required IT standards.
Sets priorities and ensures execution of information technology changes, enhancements, and maintaining currency in a dynamic environment.
Provides guidance and a technical view on security considerations to transition to the MS Azure cloud offering.
Develops and maintains services and operational expectations for, and with, all business partners within OPTrust.

Team Leadership Function

Responsible for building and developing a team which is both capable and responsive to the needs of the organization.
Responsible for team recruitment, including development of job specifications as required, interviewing and assessment of candidates.
Performance management and coaching of the management team and staff, including management of probationary periods, performance assessment, and feedback.
Responsible for annual budget preparation and on-going monitoring of budget.
Provides leadership and advice on strategy, planning, staffing and operations as a senior member of the IT management team.
Participates in special projects and committees as required.
Promotes, enhances and implements the desired OPTrust culture and values within the division and the organization.
Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Demonstrated experience managing cyber response, security and governance practices in complex information technology environments at a pension organization or the financial services industry.
Strong knowledge and proven experience in optimizing and enhancing IT Security and Governance controls by effectively leveraging people, processes and technology.
Significant experience in planning, budgeting, policy & standards development, prioritization and business activity co-ordination.
Strong team leadership skills, including coaching and development of technical staff.
Demonstrated ability to secure and govern the implementation of SaaS/PaaS/IaaS, Managed Services and on-prem solutions in adherence to deadlines and within budget.
Proven experience in security best practices for MS Azure and M365 environment.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build positive and productive relationships with other teams and individuals both inside and outside the organization.
Post secondary degree in computer science or equivalent experience is required.
A combination of Certified Information Systems Security Professional, (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager, (CISSM), IT audit or risk management certification such as Certified Information Security Auditor, (CISA), Certified Risk & Information Systems Control (CRISC) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) are required.
Proven experience with supporting business continuity from both a technical and process lens.
Great networking, relationship building and influencing skills.
Strong leadership skills with minimum of 5 years experience managing multiple IT Security and Governance teams demonstrating the ability to multi-task in a very dynamic environment.
Demonstrated ability to oversee the direction, development and implementation of complex technical solutions.
Strong client-service orientation, demonstrated sound judgment, good organizational skills and personal flexibility.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and project management to consistently meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
Highly self-motivated with a keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute in a high-pressure environment.
