What You’ll Do

As a Network Engineer, you will lead and support the day-to-day network infrastructure related activities for Northland Power, including design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluate and experiment with new technologies to improve operations.
Provide technical direction and develop solutions to address business and security challenges.
Collaborate with security and managed services teams to develop and implement solutions.
Triage support requests and coordinate resolution with external providers and security team.
Ensure all technical outputs meet or exceed quality expectations and adhere to change management policies.
Keep team informed of trends, challenges, and major issues.
Maintain network infrastructure documentation and contribute to training materials.
Act as an escalation point for network and firewall support issues.

Qualifications And Experience

5+ years of experience working with large enterprise networks
Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent work experience
CCNP, CCIE or equivalent experience with layer 2-4 networking preferred
Fortinet and Palo Alto certifications would be considered assets
Experience working in a plant/manufacturing environment preferred
Proficiency with routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), VLANs, STP, and LACP
Experience with IDS/IPS, ACLs, NATs, SSL/TLS, SDWAN, VRF’s, and IPSEC VPN
Experience with Wi-Fi and 802.11 protocols, RF planning, and troubleshooting
Understanding of data center environments, concepts, and technologies
Experience managing DNS and DHCP infrastructure in large environments
Design experience with large, scalable, and highly available enterprise networks
Familiarity with information security best practices for network design and troubleshooting
Understanding of Windows Server, Microsoft services, and backup/recovery technologies
Ability to work confidently with command line interface
Knowledge of network concepts in a virtualized environment (VMware and Hyper V)
Proficiency in troubleshoot large multi-tier micro-segmented networks in a complex WAN environment
SASE (Secure Access Services Edge) deployment experiences using PaloAlto (Prisma Access & Zero Trust Networking Security concepts
Experience in administrating and managing leading Network Access control (NAC) and AAA platforms for endpoint access-controls, posture-validation, 802.1x and Guest-Access controls.
Advanced application networking experiences such as Citrix NetScaler ADC/F5 Big- IP Series, Web Application Firewall, Packet brokering Solutions & hardware TAP etc.
Large-scale implementation experiences on Next-Gen Firewalls and IPS Solutions & Security Fabric implementations using Cisco, PaloAlto and Fortinet products.
Working experiences in firewall automation and centralised policy management tools like Panorama/FortiManager to manage large-number of virtual/physical firewalls dispersed around various geographic locations
Hands-on expertise in implementing various Azure networking building block concepts viz. Hub/Spoke virtual Networks, Azure firewalls, Azure Route tables, Network Security Groups, Azure VPN Gateway, VNET peering, DDoS Protection, Azure Baston, Azure network watcher etc. on a cloud-native/hybrid environment.
Expert skills in managing various Layer2/layer3 concepts in Cisco Switches such as MLS, VTP, IP Source Guard, Port based traffic-controls, QoS, 802.1Q Trunking, VLAN ACLs, Private-VLAN, Port Security, NetFlow, STP/RSTP/MST, SPAN/RSPAN/ERSPAN, LACP & EtherChannel’s, DHCP Snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, IOS DoS Protections, CoPP, VRRP & HSRP, BGP, OSPF, IPv6, etc.
Working knowledge in diagnosing complex network performance issues and working with Network monitoring tools including Wireshark, tcpdump, MRTG, tcpreplay etc.
Largescale route/policy-based VPN implementation experiences in a multi-vendor environment using IPSEC, DMVPPN, GRE/IPSEC,EZVPN etc.
Familiarity with opensource network-security and enterprise monitoring tools such Snort, Suricata, Zeek/Bro, Sysmon, ELK, bash/python scripting etc.
Familiarity with leading firewall policy management and compliance audit tools like Fremon and Tufin etc.
Knowledge of standards such as NIST, NERC, PHIPPA, and PCI DSS along with applying Perdue model principles
