Function Overview

Nomura’s Wholesale Software Engineering group advances software engineering practices and cloud-native practices. Its charter is to continuously improve the caliber of our software and technology practitioners, our development practices and the optimal choice of technologies with data and metrics. The function is focused on systematically improving the developer experience on productivity, risk mitigation with efficiency and effectiveness.

Job Purpose:

This Senior Software Engineer will lead advancements in observability engineering & SRE focusing on improving the quality, stability, security, resilience of our software systems.

Job Responsibilities:

· Ability to understand, analyze and implement functional and non-functional requirements.

· Incorporate better traceability from user stories, epics to code coverage and test coverage w/ TDD etc.

· Improve test automation practices with continuous integration and influence release engineering.

· Help dev-engineering teams improve test-automation, regression testing, and improve on DORA metrics.

· Develop awareness around observability using Open Telemetry and champion SRE competency.

· Lead impact assessment and technology selection decisions related to build and release engineering.

· Partner with dev-engineering community, runtime-engineering community and application owners to advance SDLC.

· Actively embrace new methods and practices that increase efficiency and effectiveness.

· Proactively engage with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and design solutions using critical thinking and analysis skills and best practices.

· Support and enhance production-like environment to ensure their releases have reliability, observability and maintainability.

Qualification & Core Skills requirement:

· 10 + years of experience

Experience w/ JIRA, Confluence, GIT, xUnit, SonarQube, Jenkins, Zephyr, Grafana++/Prometheus.

· Experience developing and improving software systems written in Java, node.js, Python, Golang etc.

· Experience implementing SRE practices in product development teams at scale

· Proficient in coding in multiple languages, scripting and debugging complex systems.

· Working familiarity with data analytics on reliability engineering, applying AI/ML/AIOps practices.

· Understands Cloud-Native development, APIs, microservices and containerization.

· Demonstrate solid understanding of CICD concepts and DevSecOps, release management, test automation in agile based continuous integration environment. (knowledge of setting up a pipeline from scratch)

· Understand end-to-end automation of deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management in a cloud environment (tools such as Terraform).

· Experience with either a public (AWS, Azure, GCE etc.) or private cloud provider

· Have knowledge of containers, Kubernetes and Helm

· Understands evaluating open source software, ability to improvise and build viable solutions.

· Understands Cloud-Native development, APIs, microservices and containerization.

· A curious learner, problem solver and a collaborator. Good in documentation, communication.
