POSITION SUMMARY

This position is a critical member of the Information Technology team and plays an important role in expanding the capabilities of our systems. This position will help support our web applications including agency and policyholder portals. In this role, the incumbent supports both the day-to-day maintenance of web applications and works to provide additional functionality and enhancements on an ongoing basis. Analysis of customer needs and company objectives may be required to address and execute the enhancements to the portals. Strong debugging and analytical skills will be needed to conduct problem/resolution activities. The incumbent will present recommendations and timeline implementation to management. As a senior development staff member, this person will lead design sessions and technical reviews to ensure development best practices. Strong Java programming experience is required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Upgrade, enhance, and develop new applications functionality in line with new technology and business/customer needs
Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code
Execute and document tests to ensure results are as expected
Provide production support
Maintain web applications and web application servers, handling day-to-day monitoring and regularly scheduled maintenance issues
Solve complex technical issues
Facilitate and lead design sessions and reviews to promote cross-training and best practices
Propose designs and solutions that promote a sound and robust systems architecture
Improve operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies/procedures
Coordinate with business analysts, fellow engineers, and technical service staff regarding system performance requirements, programming needs, and hardware/software resource requirements
Stay current through following technology trends, development tools, and programming techniques, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations
Perform other duties or special projects as required or as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field or commensurate technical experience
5+ years of experience with JavaScript, HTML/XML/XSLT, and SOAP
3+ years of experience with JSON, jQuery, and Regex
Expert knowledge of Java and Struts
Experience with software architecture patterns
Experience with WebSphere/Tomcat configuration and management
Experience with Subversion or similar version control system
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
